According to the following newpaper article Sadie would have been born about 1860. THE OBSERVER-JOURNAL, Dunkirk, NY Pg. 1 Wednesday, October 19, 1887 Shot His Mistress. PITTSBURGH, Oct. 19.- At ten o'clock last night Sadie Pruner, alias Sadie Jones, was shot and almost instantly killed in the doorway of No 128 Third avenue by Joseph Evans, aged twenty-one years. The woman was twenty-seven years old and had been an inmate of disreputable houses several years. Evans was her lover. They quarreled about a month ago and did not meet again until last night when Evans sent for her. She came to the door of the house and after talking hotly for a few minutes Evans shot her. He was arrested. According to Bert's WW II Draft Registration Card it states he was born in Blair Co. 15 Oct 1877 [indexed as 1878, looks like 1878 was written first then 1877 was written over the 1878] In the 1880 census for Logan Twp., Blair County there is a Henry W. Pruner, age 21 b. PA and his wife Sarah E., age 20 b. PA listed. No children listed. Your are looking for a William and Sadie. Henry W.'s middle name could have been William and Sadie is a nickname for Sarah. Then we come to Bert's birthdate, here is part of the "stretch." Could he have been born in 1880 and that is why he isn't listed? According to his gravestone he was born in 1875--his mother would have been 15 at the time of his birth if you go by her age in the article. The 1877/1878 birth year from the WW II registation is a little better. If it was the 1880's, you were under age 10, faced with the trauma of losing your mother and placed in an orphanage for any length of time, especially if it was years---would you remember how old you were? I saw in an old postings that Bert had siblings, William and Ann. William was b. May 1882 any idea when Ann was born? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Could the Pruner name be one that Bert acquired after being adopted? Could he have been born with a different surname? William, Sadie and Bert do not seem to show up in the 1880 census anywhere. I guess that they could have missed out on the count. It wouldn't be the first time that I have had this same problem. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. There are several Pruners in 1900 census but it is very difficult to find them in the 1880 records. I suspect that the name was changed or recorded differently in the 1880 and older records. There are no obvious hits for Bert Pruner, born about 1875-1877 in the 1880 census, with parents William and Sadie. Here is a close hit: 1880 Census, Philadelphia, PA, p. 42C Jackson Bruner, 25, Pa, PA, PA, Stevedore Elizabeth, 20, PA, Ger, Ger Albert, 4 Chas, 2 Robert, 9/12 Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. How this list has changed. If you do not like what someone is saying, why not just ignore that person. Better to have positive aura in your lives. I am happy to say that when I have asked for information when hitting a brickwall, I have received information way beyond what I have asked for in return. I have provided when I have been able information to others with the same willingness. Yes, it is usually someone who is distantly related, but how else would we have found each other. I have only had one ugly person in my searches and he was properly admonished by someone else who read the message on rootsweb. Sorry to say that rootsweb has changed recently and not for the better. ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
