Author: sc512 Surnames: Keim Mack Mitchell Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.indiana/6295/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi: My mother is Fay Sparks, maiden name Geraldine Fay Keim, daughter of James Thomas Kime and Fannie Breth. I am looking for information on Ruby Mitchell, maiden name Ruby Mack, daughter of Gertrude Keim and Rufus Mack. Gertrude was my mother's paternal aunt--sister to James Thomas Keim. Ruby Mitchell was born in 1894 in Philadelphia and died in Brooklyn NY in 1978. Most of the records I have encountered mention that Gertrude and Rufus also had two twin girls that died in childhood. My mother is getting along in years, but recently recalled that Ruby Mitchell came to her home in childhood in Cookport, PA and sang in the church on a few occasions. My mother was quite young, but believes that Ruby sang professionally in NY at that time. My mother believes she was an opera singer, a soprano, in fact, but I have found no info on the Met website, though perhaps they had some minor singers, perhaps in the chorus that they do not mention. I would like to find out more about what became of Ruby for my mom, before she died. I did determine that she acquired a social security number in Brooklyn, and also died there as indicated above. I also learned that in at least one record, Gertrude Keim's surname is misspelled as Kline or some variation, and that Rufus Mack's given name is spelled Rufis at times. Any assistance is greatly appreciated, and thank you to anyone who is able to help me. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have data on the Cunningham family, but have not been able to determine from which Reed family Jane descends. I rec'd a Family Group Sheet - no documentation - that shows Jane the daughter of John & Dorcas (Neil) Reed, born 1794, married David Cunningham. I'm questioning or trying to validate that fact, since Jane shows as age 30-40 in the 1840 Indiana County census, 50 in 1850 and 59 in 1860. This puts her year of birth 1799-1801. The bio you posted does not show John & Dorcas' son "Joseph b. in 1792, d. February 22, 1880, m. to Mary Christy, d.", as per Caldwells, pg 505. Author: RMurray99 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.indiana/6294.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Below is the complete bio from Caldwells. When and where is David Robert Cunningham found? GEORGE REED was born in 1801, near New Salem, Westmoreland county, and was a son of John and Dorcas Reed nee Neil. The former was a soldier in the Revolutionary war for eighteen months, serving three terms of six months each, for his father, brother, and himself. He was at the battles of Stony Point and Brandwine, where he was wounded in the leg. The only relief he received for his injury was by tearing off a piece of his linen shirt and drawing it through the hold in his leg. He was a native of Lancaster county, and four of his children were born in that county, and the remainder in Westmoreland. He died in 1818, at the age of seventy. His children were: Robert, d., b. in 1785, m. to Jane McCullough; James, d., b. in 1788, m. to Margaret Ralston; Adam, d., b. in 1789, m. to Mary Christy, d.; Jane, d., b. in 1794; John, d., b. in 1796; Samuel, d., b. in 1799, m. to Lavinia Hunter; George, b. in 1801, m. to Mary Mechling; Dorcas, d., b. in 1803, m. to Jeremiah Tittle, d.; and William, d., b. in 1805. James was county commissioner of Westmoreland county, and died during his first term. George was justice of the peace for one term. The latter was a millwright by trade, and built and repaired mills for twenty years. He erected three steam mills in Westmoreland county, namely, at New Salem, Derry, and Hannastown. He came to Indiana county in 1839, and erected the Reed and Wallace steam mill in Young township, the second steam mill in the county, the first being at Blairsville. Since 1855, he has been proprietor of the "old Clark mill," Young tp. Our subject's children were: John, d.; David M., m. to Eliza Marshall; Benjamin Franklin, d., m. to Jennie Sandles; Eliza, m. to David Robinson; Mary Jane, m. to John Jack; Charlotte Susan, m. to William McKelvey; Dorcas Ann, m. to William McGara; and Sybilla Margaret, m. to Robert Henry. John was a private in Co. K., 11th Pa. vols., and was promoted successively, to second lieutenant and captain. He was wounded at Antietam, while in command of his company, and died Oct. 2, 1862, before the latter commission reached him. David M. was a lieutenant in the militia at the time of the Morgan raid. Benjamin Franklin was a soldier in the 206th Pennsylvania volunteers. The children of William and Susan McKelvey nee Reed were: John, Frank, George and Armor. 3. Looking for parents, siblings, and relatives of Samuel Wilcox (Willcox, Wilcocks). My Wilcox family lived in or around Indiana County, PA in early 1800's. Samuel Willcocks/Willcox marrried Elizabeth Brewbaker (Brubaker) around1805-09. They settled in Plum Creek Township, Armstrong County, PA prior to 1820. Samuel was born around 1770. I do not have any details of family prior to Samuel. In the 1820's, and perhaps into the 1840's, the family resided inArmstrong County near Elderton, PA. They also resided in Saltsburg(Indiana County, and in Kittanning area (Armstrong County) from the 1850's or earlier. William Wilcocks was born around 1810 to Samuel & Elizabeth. William married Nancy Bierly of Armstrong County, PA. Her parents were John & Katherine Bierley (Birerly).
