Steve, would you mind looking up Jules Renard? I have seen a map with his name on it...in Bedford County. Unfortunately, my time in PA ran out before I could track much more down. I did check both historical societies and the courthouse. I have a copy of his declaration of intent, never found his naturalization papers....found his daughter's grave (behind my grandparents and uncle) in Broad Top City cemetery. Jules made several trips back and forth to Belgium. The trip my ancestors came was August, 1902. His daughter died that December. I have all of them on the Ellis Island manifest. Any help you may be able to give....or direction to pursue my research will be deeply appreciated. Sorry, cut and paste lesson still to come. S. Africa's chapter on Barree Twp.; author is likely offering his best recollection in other words, hearsay. You can get the time frame exactly by checking the census and the yearly tax lists. Clues, Africa's chapter does not contain MAFFITT in its 1788 tax list as transcribed there, does show both William and Robert as farm owners in 1812. Woodcock Valley, Bedford County would likely be Hopewell Township...
