Reply for "What township is Huntingdon, Pa. in? I an searching the GIBSON family from >Huntingdon, Pa." Pennsylvania counties consist of townships, boroughs and cities. Boroughs are not legally part of the townships that surround them. Huntingdon Borough has been here since 1796. It was formed out of a piece of Huntingdon Township, which ceased to exist in 1814 when the township was divided into two and the sections were given new names. Huntingdon Borough tax assessments are found listed in the Henderson Township books for many years thereafter. Census should show Huntingdon Borough from 1800 on. Rural delivery postal addresses could be in half a dozen townships and still bear the name "Huntingdon." And don't forget that there are a couple of other vilages and townships called Huntingdon scattered around the state. The local historical society receives many inquiries that don't even pertain to Huntingdon County because of the name duplications. (Steve Kemp) >
