He also has some other papers, and a a hand painted silk certificate. I think he also has a gun from him too. This was given to him from our grandfather's brother who is a decendant of Mae McCahan. She is the Daughter of John Kinney McCahan and Mary Jane McCahan (Thomas' brother and sisterinlaw) hard to follow i know. I am looking for information regarding Mae McCahan and her father John Kinney McCahan the 2nd. His father John McCahan the first was from Drumnahaigh Ireland. I dont know where i got this information from but it must have been with the items that my brother got from our grandfather's brother. In this letter/information, there are excerpts from his diary.... "Sept. 25, 1861. Left Camp Jones this afternoon. Arrive at Camp Reynold in evening about one mile from Grannoly town." "Sept, Thursday, 26th. Slept all night behind my horse. Fight reported across river, could see the smoke and dust and hear their guns very plainly." plaease contact me with anything further, Sherrie Newman sherrie@bakerb.com ps, for some reason my email is listed wrong on this site...
Not sure how much you know about Capt. Thomas McCahan Civil War service but he was with the 9th Pa. Calvary. He enlisted as a 1st Lt. In August 1861, was promoted to Capt. and was later discharged due to wounds on August 1864. The NARA does have a pension file on him. Hope this helps ... gary grove -----Original Message----- From: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com [mailto:gc-gateway@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of sherrie@baker.com Sent: Monday, February 24, 2003 7:32 PM To: PAHUNTIN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: Capt.
