I'm new to the list, and am working with the following families that may have ties to Huntingdon Co.: CARR, PIPER, RIPPEY, CRAINE. They have variously intermarried with my primary FLETCHER line of Bedford Co., PA. This FLETCHER line is local-specific to the descendancy of Jacob Fletcher (1743-1831, d. Bedford Co.), via his son Jacob (1771-ca. 1853? d. Bedford, PA?). For CARR: I'm trying to find parentage for a William K. CARR, b. ca. 1821, possibly in Huntingdon Co. He married Mary Rippey FLETCHER, daughter of William Fletcher and Elizabeth Rippey of Bedford, PA. The marriage was held in Ebensburg, Cambria Co., in 1859, at the home of a William K. PIPER. An uncle of Mary Fletcher, John PIPER (1799-1870), lived in Gaysport, Blair Co., at the time. John PIPER had married Julia Ann Fletcher, sister of the above William, in 1819. After the death of Julia Ann in 1837, John PIPER may have moved into what was then Blair Twp., Huntingdon Co. (was this portion incorporated into the newly formed Blair Co.?), as suggested by the 1840 census. PIPER: this line is believed to have centered in the Cumberland Co./ Shippensburg area, with lines spreading to Huntingdon Co., and Bedford Co. The "Fort Piper" Pipers of Hopewell Twp., Bedford Co., are believed to be extended family of the John Piper mentioned above. Likewise, Elizabeth RIPPEY, wife of William Fletcher, was a daughter of John Rippey and Mary PIPER of Shippensburg. It's possible that the same Hopewell Twp. group was related to Elizabeth as well as John. Both Elizabeth RIPPEY and John PIPER are known to have been born in Shippensburg. Other lines with Huntingdon links: BLODGET, and CRAINE. John Adams BLODGET, son of Rebecca SMITH and Samuel BLODGET, Jr., married Anna/Nancy FLETCHER, daughter of Jacob FLETCHER mentioned above. William SMITH, D.D., father of Rebecca SMITH BLODGET, was a founder of the University of PA in Philadelphia, and also helped found Huntingdon Co. Eliza BLODGET, daughter of John A. BLODGET and Nancy FLETCHER, married Alfred A. CRAINE, son of Abraham and Jane CRAINE of Bedford Borough, Bedford Co. Data suggests that the CRAINE family came to Bedford from Huntingdon around 1840. I know this has run longer than the usual query, but I think it may help other researchers with specific interests in these surnames in the Huntingdon/Cumberland/Bedford/Blair area. All alliances with my FLETCHER line occurred in Bedford between 1819 and 1860. I'm happy to share what I know and compare notes with anyone who can shed some light on the possible Huntingdon, etc., links with these families. David Fletcher Richmond, VA
