    3. Kathy, I have read other referances to Charlottes name and it is spelled Morrison. As a matter of fact I found an article of yours on the internet, Joshua Brown of Lancaster Co unty, and you spell Charlottes last name Morrison there. It is also spelled Morrison in an article in a Commerative biographical Encylopedia of Juniatta Valley. Also about the Browns being born in Md. It is very possible. As after 1730 some of the Nottingham descendants began to move to other regions, cheaper land prices, bettere economic opportunities, plu s overcrowding caused by the influx of settlers who purchased land near Nottingham were factors that caused some of the descendant families to migrate south and west. Some of the descendants relocated to Philadelphia and Baltimore areas and intermarried. And it is well know that Jeramiah Brown was one of them and he settled in rising sun where his house is still located in a park. It is on one of Mds, scenic byways, Atlantic to Appalations. Plus in 1701 all 18,000 acres of Nottingham lay in Chester county, Pa. However after the settlement of the Mason -Dixon line in the late 1760's only 1300 acres of the original Nottingham Lots remained in Chester co unty Pa. and the other 16,700 acres became part of Cecil County Md. As Jeramiaha moved to Rising Sun it is very likely that some of his children moved there as well, aqnd it would explain Joshua being born in Cumberland Md. and traveling over the mtns to Huntington County, Pa. Another fact I seem to forget to mention toyou is that Joshuas land was supposed to take u p the land where Maddensville now stands. Sue

    3. SUE, I did indeed say and think that Charlotte's maiden name was Morrison, although recently I have been writing it as Morris(on) because I didn't know which was correct. I just got these bible records this past month, and it clearly states her maiden name as Morris. But, keep in mind that I still question these bible records, at least until someone we know actually views the bible and feels sure that all of the writing on them was done at one time back years ago. If someone possibly added the 'Cumberland, MD' part, then they could have added the 'Morris' part also. But I am not saying that is the case.....I just don't know. What I received was a copy, so I definitely don't know for sure. I found several Morrisons living near the Browns in different parts of Penn., but could not find one that had a daughter named Charlotte....at least not yet. We might eventually. So, I am still willing to go either Morris or Morrison. One other reason though, that we might lean towards the Morris name. And that is that they had 3 grandsons named Morris Brown. Their youngest son George Washington Brown named a son Morris Brown; their oldest son Caleb named a son Morris Brown; and their son Jeremiah Brown had a son named Morris Brown. At least that is what I have been told by descendants of these 3 sons of Joshua & Charlotte.??? Now for the Lancaster Browns. Maybe Jeremiah Brown (the one that married Mary Royal Coale) had a brother, who might have had a grandson that is our Joshua. I have not checked that far back. I did check out all of Jeremiah's children, and did not find any of them with a child named Joshua that is not accounted for in the Quaker records. A couple of them did have a son Joshua, but those Joshua's are also well documented in the Quaker records. I had hoped someone might have this family charted out on the internet with the sources and the Quaker minute references noted. But I haven't found one yet, so I guess I may try to do that. That might help. I have a big stack of copies I made from the Hinshaw books, the original quaker records at the LDS library, and other books on Quaker records. I will try to organize it and put it in a FTM file so it is better organized and everyone can see what I found. Then we can better see, what tact to take next. I do feel like there is a good chance that he fits into that bunch somewhere, as do the Baltimore, MD Browns. It's like a giant puzzle that is getting bigger and bigger :~). HELP!
