He was married to Elizabeth (unknown maiden name), who was born in Pennsylvania and died 24 February 1878. They had a son, James Black, who was born 20 August 1847 and died 2 May 1904/1914. James married Barbara Ellen Murray on 23 Jan/Apr 1873 at Methodist Episcopal Church, Cassville, Huntingdon Co., PA. She was born 5 March 1857 and died 31 October 1883 in Cassville. James then married Julian Butler on 10 July 1884. Julian died 15 March 1932 and may have been the daughter of Laura Butler (the name appears in an old family Bible believed to have belonged to James and Julian Black - her date of death is listed as 10 April 1905). James and Julian had no children but James and Ellen (Murray) Black had the following children: Liza Jennie, b. 13 November 1873 Franklin A., b. 13 April 1875 William C., b. 7 August 1878 Harriet Gertrude,b. 30 September 1880 Isaac Newton, b. 1 January/April 1882 James appears on the 1880 Census in Cassville, Huntingdon Co., PA: James BLACK Self M Male W 33 PA Carpenter PA PA Eleon BLACK Wife M Female W 29 PA House K. BLACK Son S Male W 1 PA PA PA Harriet Gertrude Black had a daughter, Freda Cleo Black, born 30 August 1899 in Cassville. Harriet Gertrude married Ernest Kopsch 28 November 1900. She died 21 January 1950 in Altoona, Blair Co. Freda married Floyd Davis Bowers 1 June 1917. She died 9 December 1967 in Altoona.
