Ludwig Sells was licensed to keep a public-house here, in 1781. The dates you have referencing Barree and Huntingdon, though, are anachronisms. Neither place existed at those dates. Huntingdon County was not created until 1787. From 1771-87 the territory was in Bedford County. Prior to that it was in Cumberland County. Barree Township was erected in 1767 and extended out to the edge of settlement, and in area was as large or larger than present-day counties. In the 1750s there were only a handful of "white" settlers in the area. Over the next 20 years, they sometimes evacuated to the east and returned as the danger from Indian raids ebbed and flowed.. Hugh Crawford made out a deed for the land where the town of Huntingdon now sits, in 1760, conveying it to George Croghan, who also obtained an official patent from the provincial authorities for the land. He sold it to Rev. William Smith in 1766. You might check the tax assessment lists for Barree Township starting in 1767 for these surnames.
