I did a fast check of the Huntingdon County, Tax Records from 1790-1800 and found the following: 1790 No Jacob Hammer 1791: Jacob Hammer, Taxable Resident; 180 acres; Rate 5; 2 Cows; Hopewell Township 1792: Jacob Hammer: No Jacob Hammer 1793: Jacob Hammer, 166 acres; No Rate; 3 Cows, Union Township 1794: 166 acres; Rate 4; 3 Cows, Union Township, Taxable Resident 1795: Jacob Hammer, 250 acres, Rate 4, 2 Cows, Union Township, Taxable Resident 1796: Jacob Hammer, 137 acres, Rate 4, 2 Cows, Taxable Residnet, Union Township 1797: Jacob Hammer, Listed as taxable resident, Union Twp. 1798: Jacob Hammer Listed as taxable resident, Union Twp. 1799: Jacob Hammor, 134 acres for Landlord, Rate 3, 4 Cows, Union Township 1800: Jacob Hammer, 134 acres, Rate 3, 1 Horse, 4 Cows Union Twp., was formed in 1791 from Hopewell Twp., as the county was being organized. So he probably did not move, the township lines did as Union Township was being formed. Taxable Resident indicates he was married and over 21 at the time of Taxation. Also, if he shows on the list for 1791, he probably arrived in Hopewell Twp., in 1790..a check of the 1790 census might be a good idea. Also, seems like there was taxed land, I would check the court house in Huntingdon, maybe you could get lucky and the deed would say, "Jacob Hammer of (Blank County)..which would give you an idea where he was before Huntingdon. I do not have the tax records past 1800 on hand....but if you check them it maybe able to give you a clue when he left and where some the children were born. I also checked the single freeman records for all years and there are no Hammers. Hope this helps! Rob Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
