    1. [PAHUNTIN] Children of Robert Stewart and Catherine Spencer
    2. Below are transcriptions of what is contained in the "Stewart Clan Magazine" about the children of Robert and Catherine (Spencer) Stewart. The letter designation is the Tome of the magazine in which the write-up appears and of course the number is the page within that tome. WILLIAM STEWART C261 William Stewart, born about 1771, married Mary -----. He died after Feb. 12, 1799, in West township, when the orphan's court awarded a writ to divide or appraise his father's estate, and before Mar. 7, 1799. On Mar. 8, 1799, administration on his estate was granted to Samuel Stewart, the widow Mary having renounced her right the day before. The witnesses to Mary's renunciation were James and Ann Stewart. William had a posthumous daughter, and in May 1801, William Johnston, esq., was appointed the child's guardian; he refused to act, and on Dec. 1, 1801, the court appointed Robert Spencer. On Sep. 15, 1802, Spencer as guardian waived his ward's right to buy her grandfather's land. Child; Abigail 1799 SAMUEL STEWART C261 Samuel Stewart, born 1773, appears to have bought his father's 120 acre farm in Barree township in 1802. SAMUEL STEWART F210 Samuel Stewart, born in 1773 in Chester county, was a boy when his parents moved to Huntingdon county and settled on Globe run some two miles above Wisontown, in West township. There he married Oct. 2, 1798, Ann Wilson. He and some of his brothers moved to Licking county, Ohio, about 1805 or 1810. Benjamin Elliott, one of the justices of the Huntingdon county court, went to Ohio in the 1800s and acquired considerable land on the north branch of Licking river, in the Military tract, on which he laid out a town called Fairfield in 1806, then in Fairfield county but, after 1808, in Licking county. At a drawing of lots, which was held in the town of Newark, Samuel Stewart drew lot 53 in Fairfield. Elliot gave him this lot free, in a deed dated Nov. 15, 1813, "in consideration of the regard he has for his name and his wife Susan's name that the said Samuel will call the child that his wife Ann is now pregnant with, if a male Benjamin Elliott, if a female Susan Elliott." On the same day Judge Elliott gave Robert Stewart lot 61 in Fairfield on condition that Robert would build a log house 18X20 feet on it with in 18 months. On Nov. 19, 1813, Elliott deeded a lot to John Stewart, young son of Samuel, "in consideration of the regard and respect of my father's name, John Elliott." Nov. 5, 1813, Elliott donated 170 perches of land in section 4, township 3, range 12, for a school in Newton township, Licking county, the trustees being Samuel Stewart, John Spencer and William Gray. Benjamin Elliott continued to reside in Huntingdon county, Pa., where, "advanced in years and unable to attend to his business as formerly, "he signed a power-of-attorney on Nov. 17, 1813, appointing Samuel Stewart of Licking county, Ohio, "now present on my farm," his agent, authorizing Stewart to hire a millwright and build a saw-mill and also engage a man to build a gristmill on a little stream there in partnership with William Spencer, and also to take care of the sugar trees and other timber on all unleased lands in the county, etc.. Samuel Stewart sold his several tracts of land in 1817, 1818 and 1819, after which he seems to have removed from the county. JOHN STEWART C261 John Stewart, born 1778, married Oct. 20, 1801, Margaret Wilson. JAMES STEWART C261 James Stewart, born in 1783, chose John Spencer as his guardian May 9, 1799, when he was over 14 years of age. He married Oct. 1, 1805, Janet Gray. ROBERT STEWART C262 Robert Stewart, born in 1785, was placed under the guardianship of John Spencer Feb. 12, 1799. ALEXANDER STEWART C262 Alexander Stewart, born in 1787, was placed under the guardianship of John Spencer Feb. 12, 1799. ANDREW STEWART C262 Andrew Stewart, born 1791, was placed under the guardianship of John Spencer Feb. 12, 1799, when 7 years of age. He died May --, 1847, leaving ten children. **************************************See AOL's top rated recipes (http://food.aol.com/top-rated-recipes?NCID=aoltop00030000000004)
