    1. Re: [PAHUNTIN] Possible ancestors of Robert Stewart husband of Catherine Spencer

    3. I want to thank you for your two postings about the Stewart line. I too am interested in the line as I descend from the Robert Spencer you mentioned in your second posting on the 25th of December at 4:18 PM in the paragraph about William Stewart C261. To give you a little more information about what I know, I also have copied everything I can find on those Spencer's whether or not it relates to the Stewarts. I know who the Catherine Spencer was and who her father was, etc. and about Chester County, etc. I'm afraid I can't help you with your early Stewarts. You have posted information about the Stewarts I did not have, except for the item about Robert Spencer being appointed the guardian of a Stewart. Robert Spencer was born in Ireland in 1757 (1850 census age) and died in West Twp., Huntingdon Co. in 1850, just after the census evidently. I believe him to be a brother of the John Spencer in Alexandria for a number of reasons but haven't made the positive connection yet. That John was also born in Ireland but in 1754. John is found owning land in the late 1700's in West Twp. even though he was a near resident to the village of Alexandria. I have never found that Robert actually owned land there even though he was in that location for many years. Robert married a Hannah __?__. (Stewart?) My connection to Robert Spencer is that a codicil to Robert's will adds him to the list of his heirs before he died. He stated that my Milton Whitney, son of his daughter Sarah, was a resident of Licking Co., Ohio. Milton was my great-grandfather. Sarah evidently died shortly after Milton's birth due to complications (Old letter states as much and that would have been 1817 thru 1820 according to Milton's Civil War Pension Applications in which he gave different dates each time). I do not know who the father was. Milton was then brought up in Licking Co., Ohio by a Spencer Family (the letter). I know not which one but the General John Spencer of the War of 1812, Captain then, came to Licking Co. in 1805. Others of his family followed later. There are Stewart's in the neighborhood and they were from Penn. There is a short story, written by the wife of one of those Stewarts, that I have copied and if you are interested in the members of the Stewart family that went West I can probably make a copy for you. That is if I can find it. The Geek Squad reformatted my hard drive without making a proper backup first and lost a lot of information I had. If you have any more information about the Robert Spencer line I would appreciate knowing of it. Thanks again for your postings. Ben Whitney in California.
