Hi Jessica, I can't say exactly where the Dean Cemetery was (it was moved before my time for Raystown Lake) but according to my father it was in close proximity to the Yocum Cemetery, except it was in the flood zone. I have copies of records when the cemetery was relocated, and at that time, there were 3 marked stones all with the name of Dean. There were 6 Unknown stones that were moved as well. It is possible any research done before the early 1970s might include the names of the other unknown stones. It is also possible there is another Dean Cemetery that I am not familiar with. There were some transcriptions done other than by the US Army Corps of Engineers prior to these small cemeteries being moved for the lake. It is possible a more detailed transcription survives. I would check with the Huntingdon Co. Historical Society. Polly Wheland has a lost and forgotten cemetery book there. You should be able to find court records from the 1880s in the Huntingdon County Courthouse. Do you know if court records from the 1880s still exist, and where I can find them? Thanks. Also, do you know what happened to Dean Cemetery? There is a transcription at the rootsweb site that lists a John Oswald as being buried with his wife Juliana. These two individuals are the same Oswalts/Oswalds that I mentioned before. I've noticed that in several of the censuses, the Oswalts lived near Deans. She died in August (the year unreadable) at age 89 years 9 months 28 days. Also in the same cemetery are Ann Dowling, died 10 September 1876 at 80 years 6 months 27 days and William Dowling who died 9 February 1880 at 70 years 6 months 5 days. There is also a footstone for J. D. that could be another Dowling. The only other names in the cemetery belong to Yocum, White, and Heffner. These are all related names. I am assuming the Dowling name is probably also connected, but I have not personally made that connection yet. I have a tremendous amount of information on all of the other folks buried in the cemetery, so if you make the connection, please let me know and I will gladly share what I have. As a side note, most people say there used to be many more tombstones in this cemetery that have been vandalized and/or destroyed over the years. So, when I say there are only 4 family names in the cemetery, that correlates to the stones that remain today. Does anyone know who her family might have been? I noticed that one of my ancestor's sons, John Oswalt, sued her executor, and I am wondering if there is a connection between the Oswalt and Dowling families? Mary Dowling lived in the Oswalt household and near the Oswalts in several of the censuses.
