Bea, You can find information on what is available at the Huntingdon County Courthouse in a wonderful document put together by Mimi Reed at http://www.rootsweb.com/~pahuntin/courthouse.htm I actually printed a copy and keep it by my computer and another in my field notebook so I know exactly what can be found at the court house. Each county court house is different. You can contact the Huntingdon County Historical Society through their website at http://www.huntingdonhistory.org/ Perhaps someone at the Society can help you with their directories. You may find someone who can search for you on the list, but unless they are a member, there is a fee to use the Historical Society. There are also some marriage records on-line at http://www.rootsweb.com/~pahuntin/marriages.htm and at http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/pa/huntingdon/marriage.htm Both of these websites are GREAT resources for finding information about folks in Huntingdon County. Countless volunteers have spent many hours contributing all of these records. I would recommend bookmarking the homepage of both sites for future look-ups. The main pages are http://www.rootsweb.com/~pahuntin/ and http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/pa/huntingdon/index.htm Good luck, Deb -----Original Message----- From: pahuntin-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:pahuntin-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Bea and Stan Rutherford Sent: Saturday, February 16, 2008 12:17 PM To: pahuntin@rootsweb.com Subject: [PAHUNTIN] City Directories Hi, Anyone live in or around the Huntingdon County Historical Society or have acess to Huntingdon County Directories ? I need to see if there were any Downs or Weaver's listed in the 1870 to 1895 Directories. Also, Anyone have acess to any Shade Gap marriages... between Downs / Weaver 1865/1870. AND, would the Huntingdon County courthouse have records for 1885 deaths...would they have started to record them that early? Reading through the lkink Deb provided, I found the following: " Continuance Dockets These are records of civil court proceedings, such as divorces and adoptions. Adoptions which took place prior to 1954 are not sealed. " My mother was born in 1917 (not in Huntingdon County, but in PA) When contacting the state records division, I have been told that ALL adoptions are sealed. Is anyone else more familiar with this? I was shocked to read on this link that Huntingdon Co adoptions prior to 1954 are not sealed. Is it a typo perhaps?
