Grace W. Phillips, 87, of HC 83, Shade Gap, and more recently of East Brunswick, N.J., died at 11:40 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, N.J. A mass of Christian burial was held Jan. 26 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Shade Gap, with Rev. Fr. George Koharchik as the celebrant. Interment was made in Saint Mary's Cemetery. Funeral services were under the direction of the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia. Born Oct. 22, 1914, in Springfield, Mass., she was the daughter of the late George and Winifred (Yorke) Pond. She was married to Robert Phillips. Mr. Phillips survives of HC 83, Shade Gap. Mrs. Phillips is also survived by two daughters and one son: Laura Osgood of Saugus, Mass.; William Sarro of Sarasota, Fla.; and Norma Phillips of Staten Island, N.Y. Twenty grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren also survive. One son, James Sarro, preceded her in death. She was a member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church, Shade Gap, where she had been active in the Ladies Guild and other church activities. A homemaker, Mrs. Phillips was also a member of the Shade Gap Area Senior Citizens.
