Roland J. Rogers, 53, of 445 Waupalani Drive, State College, formerly of Allenport, Mount Union, died at 9:50 a.m., on Friday, March 2, at the Mt. Nittany Medical Center, State College. He had been in failing health since November 2006. The funeral service was held on Tuesday, March 6 at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with Pastor Jeff Winstead officiating. Interment was made in Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg. He was born on January 28, 1954, in Wayne Township, Mifflin County, the son of the late Roland J. Rogers and Betty Jane (Harman) Rogers, who resides in Allenport. Along with his mother, Roland is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Bertha Bolinger and husband, Vern of RD1, Mapleton; James A. Rogers of Allenport; Roy A. Rogers, and companion, Pauline Harber of Cresson; Barbara McClure and husband, Ronald of RD1, Shirleysburg; Donald L. Rogers and wife, Sherri of Alexandria; Edward C. Rogers and wife, Cissey of Allenport; Alvin F. Rogers and wife, Mary of Allenport; Larry E. Rogers, of Allenport. Also surviving are 12 nephews and four nieces. Mr. Rogers was a graduate of Mount Union Area High School, Class of 1972. Following this, he graduated from South Hills Business School, State College, with a degree in Marketing Management and Computer Technology. He also attended classes at Penn State University, University Park. He loved to travel, was interested in computers and enjoyed playing chess. He also helped to institute handicapped bussing in State College. Mr. Rogers being a quadriplegic for his entire adult life, he has served as an inspiration to those who are physically challenged in his attempt to live life to its fullest. He was a member of the Cedar Crest Independent Baptist Church.
