    3. Hi Judy: Thanks for this wonderful information. I've finally made a little headway on my William Hammond. My friend made a trip from Nevada to Altoona and went to BCGS Library and was able to get a newspaper notice of his death in the Hollidaysburg paper in November 1871!! I shall order the film from our FHL. Our genealogical society members are trying to help with a big indexing project that the LDS folks are doing. Thanks for all you have done for all of us far away from but interested in Blair County. I liked your explanation of your homesick feelings for the cool mountain air when it is hot and humid in Georgia. We have the lowest humidity in the country but in the summer when it is 115+ with 8% or less humidity, it is a "dry heat" as we console ourselves but it is still HOT. Many thanks, Judy. 3. Good Day, W few years back when I went to Huntingdon County to do some research one of the ladies ask who I was searching for.........for years I could not find my Great Great Grandfather.........she wet into a room in the back and about a 1/2 hour later she returned with copies of my Great Great Grandfather on tax lists........this was in the 1880's but in the 1870',1880's 1890's.......not sure how far they went back. In the 1860's my Great Great Grandfather was then living in Virginia. The confusion may arise from this WATERS family obit: Lola Grace Waters, 89, a resident of the Extended Care Unit of the Fulton County Medical Center, and formerly of McConnellsburg, died Tuesday, October 10, 2000, at the Fulton County Medical Center. Born July 8, 1911, in Lockes Valley near Shade Gap, she was the daughter of the late Luther S. and Luella Locke Cornelius. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira K. Waters, and by three sisters and one brother. She was a homemaker, a member of the McConnellsburg United Methodist Church and the McConnellsburg Area Senior Citizens Center. She was the last of her immediate family. She is survived by three daughters: Sara Jane “Sally’’ Stratton of Fayetteville, PA; Dorothy Ray of McConnellsburg; and Margaret Newman of Hustontown; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Services will be held Thursday, October 12, 2000, at 11:00 a.m. at the Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, Inc., McConnellsburg, PA, with Rev. Belvy White officiating. Burial will be made in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Bt. Cabins, PA. A viewing will be held Wednesday from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. with the family present from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral on Thursday, at which time there will be no viewing. Arrangements were in charge of the Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, Inc., 322 North First Street, McConnellsburg. Unknown newspaper I know that Dublin Township was formed in 1767 in Cumberland County but was contained in Bedford County after Bedford was formed (from Cumberland) in 1771. After Huntingdon County was created in 1787 (from Bedford), Dublin Township was split between Huntingdon and Bedford counties and after 1850 (when Fulton Co. was formed) between Huntingdon and Fulton. So I think the confusion exists because Dublin Township exists today in both counties -- do I have this right? 3. Hi Jessica, I can't say exactly where the Dean Cemetery was (it was moved before my time for Raystown Lake) but according to my father it was in close proximity to the Yocum Cemetery, except it was in the flood zone. I have copies of records when the cemetery was relocated, and at that time, there were 3 marked stones all with the name of Dean. There were 6 Unknown stones that were moved as well. It is possible any research done before the early 1970s might include the names of the other unknown stones. It is also possible there is another Dean Cemetery that I am not familiar with. There were some transcriptions done other than by the US Army Corps of Engineers prior to these small cemeteries being moved for the lake. It is possible a more detailed transcription survives. I would check with the Huntingdon Co. Historical Society. Polly Wheland has a lost and forgotten cemetery book there. You should be able to find court records from the 1880s in the Huntingdon County Courthouse. Do you know if court records from the 1880s still exist, and where I can find them? Thanks. Also, do you know what happened to Dean Cemetery? There is a transcription at the rootsweb site that lists a John Oswald as being buried with his wife Juliana. These two individuals are the same Oswalts/Oswalds that I mentioned before. I've noticed that in several of the censuses, the Oswalts lived near Deans. She died in August (the year unreadable) at age 89 years 9 months 28 days. Also in the same cemetery are Ann Dowling, died 10 September 1876 at 80 years 6 months 27 days and William Dowling who died 9 February 1880 at 70 years 6 months 5 days. There is also a footstone for J. D. that could be another Dowling. The only other names in the cemetery belong to Yocum, White, and Heffner. These are all related names. I am assuming the Dowling name is probably also connected, but I have not personally made that connection yet. I have a tremendous amount of information on all of the other folks buried in the cemetery, so if you make the connection, please let me know and I will gladly share what I have. As a side note, most people say there used to be many more tombstones in this cemetery that have been vandalized and/or destroyed over the years. So, when I say there are only 4 family names in the cemetery, that correlates to the stones that remain today.
