He has been very helpful in obtaining family material, and forwarded this letter he had in Civil War Roundtable files. Some of you are Houck/Clark family, and some of you are folks that I just think will be interested in reading this letter. Also, I may have sent a WPS version of this to some of you earlier, but some people couldn't open it, so I have finally converted it to a pdf file. If you have not read E. C. Houck's Civil War booklet on my site, read it in addition to this letter. The two of them together make a very heartbreaking combination. http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~lanaclark/Civil%20War%20Reminiscences%20by%20Elijah%20Corbin%20Houck.html This letter is written by Benjamin Houck, one of four Houck brothers. He is writing to his oldest brother Allison in Minnesota. Benjamin has joined the Union army and was commisioned a Captain. He is quite distraught that their youngest brother, E. C. has become an officer in the Confederacy. He has heard rumors that E. C. has been killed, and for some reason fears that his own twin, Joseph is also dead. He is terrified that he will never see his brothers again, and that their elderly mother will be left sonless. Upon reading E.C.'s booklet, you will find that in fact, Benjamin is the only son who does die before his time. In the booklet, E. C. tells the heroic story of the twin Joseph, who crosses into enemy territory determined to bring his slain brother's body back to be buried in Huntingdon County. These Houck brothers are all my great great granduncles, being the brothers of my great great grandmother Diana Houck Clark, wife of William F. Clark (the family mentioned in the letter as 'still increasing in family'). I have pictures of E.C. and Diana, if anyone is interested in having them. The last time I was in Bedford, probably ten years ago, the county's records storage rooms held a large number of original tax lists for townships now in Blair and/or Huntingdon Counties which date from the 1780s, which are not online anywhere, so far as I know. Maybe there's more information about using them on a Bedford site; I haven't checked. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Looking for last minute shopping deals? It seems like there is a lot of new information available. This is a Bedford County tax list prior to Huntingdon County or any other county being formed. Thus for example early Shirley and Barree Township tax lists are included. http://www.pa-roots.com/users/bedford/taxlists/index.html The Historical Society has the tax records for after the County was formed, this is older information. Huntingdon County List Members, This posting showed up on another list I am subscribed to and I thought I'd check it out! There is a nation-wide effort presently going on to make most census information available on-line at no charge to genealogists. The indexing project is open to all who would like to help. Volunteers are being recruited now to extract family history information from digital images of historical documents to create searchable indexes. When the information indexed by volunteers is ready for publication, it will be made available FREE OF CHARGE through familysearch.org. I am looking for Dan Florence. I have some information he compiled for the Walters family of Fayette county that I would like to discuss with him. Thanks Ray Harlow Elida, Ohio
I've "rescued" an old photograph identified as Annie Bell Isett SARGENT which was taken at the Gilbert Bacon Studio in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's or early 1900's with Annie appearing to be in her teens at the time it was taken. In addition to her name, someone has written "Mother of Anna & Horace, Aunt of Ger & Grace" on the back of the photograph. She is dress in a graduation cap so I'm assuming this was a high school or college graduation photograph. Based on limited research I believe that this is a photograph of Annie Bell SARGENT b. 25 Sept 1875 in Philadelphia, PA to parents Chauncey Forward SARGENT (b. Oct 1828 in PA) and Ann ISETT (b. Oct 1840 in Franklin Township, PA). Annie married Joseph Horace FAULL in Dec 1903 in Altoona, PA and together they had two children, Joseph Horace Jr. and Anna Forward FAULL both born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Annie Bell died 17 Aug 1953 in Cambridge, MA. I am hoping to locate someone from her family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

I will be going in January, but with the holiday, and their schedule, doubt I will be able to get there sooner..sorry..Rob Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I would also check for deeds in Bedford for Grantees and Huntingdon for Grantors looking for the sale of the land. Also, I doubt that they moved in the above information...I think as the County was being organized the township lines may have been moved. These two townships are near Woodbury...tyrone twp. is now in Blair County. I would also be willing to bet that the Weitmer or Weltmer line is or could be Witmer. I did a quick check of all twp.s and could not find any...William in 1788 is being taxed as married...so, if you find him in Bedford County 1787 and before...there maybe the other family (Weitmer/Weltmer). The above information is a check of Taxable Inhabitants, and single freeman. Morris Twp. 1797 and 1798 are just lists of names with no property listed. If you have never interupted tax lists and their meanings I can also help you with that. My email is rwilson@unishippersusa.! com. Good Luck!! Do you have records for the Mohr / Moore family.? Christopher Mohr died in 1827 and I am looking for his wife Margaret.? The name later became Moore. They were in the Warriors Mark area of Huntingdon, that later became Snyder Twp in Blair county.? There were sons Abraham, Jacob, Christopher, John, William, George and Peter.
