Regarding death records, the state didn't start keeping death records until 1906. Huntingdon county court house would have death records from 1894-1905. (See http://www.rootsweb.com/~pahuntin/courthouse.htm ) However, since you know the exact date of death, Sue, you could order your obit from : - Huntingdon County Historical Society, if his name is in the obit index. http://www.huntingdonhistory.org/ or - Blair County Genealogical Society, since you have an exact date of death. http://www.rootsweb.com/~pabcgs/ (click on Newspaper Holdings to see what they have for Huntingdon, and on Obituary Order Form to order a photocopy of the obit) Judy ----- Original Message ----- From: "deMattos, Nancy" <ndemattos@fslf.org> To: <pahuntin@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, January 01, 2008 8:31 PM Subject: Re: [PAHUNTIN] Johnson/Johnston of Huntingdon, PA Since you have the date of death, you might try the New Castle, PA government offices. For over 10 yrs. now, I have been searching for the family of an Olive M. Wilson found residing with my g.g.grandparents in the 1870 and 1880 McVeytown, Oliver Twp., PA censuses. Olive is said to be "g.dau" in 1880 census - but haven't located such. OLIVE M. WILSON (b.1865 timeframe) married Curtin Emanuel McClain on 16 Dec. 1882 in Orbisonia, Huntingdon County, PA. One daughter born: Harriet M. on 30 July 1884 in Orbisonia. Olive M. Wilson McClain "died" early 1899, according to obit. of Curtin McClain. I do NOT have any parent(s) name, nor a death date/burial place, but I strongly believe she was in Huntingdon Co. when she died. Dau. Hallie was only 15/16 yrs. And is found in the 1900 census with a relative who resided in Cambria County. It's too ironic for the previous posts of Wilson to include the name "Olive". I would greatly appreciate correspondence re possible links. Thanks Donna Terrian dgterrian@earthlink.net
Thanks for the tip. Hi Everyone, I am trying to sort out the various Isenberg families that were in Huntingdon and Blair Counties. A lot of the Isenberg names in my database are connected, but I've got my various strays out there that probably tie in and I'm looking for some more connections. It seems there were at least 3 pockets of Isenbergs in Huntingdon County in the Shirley Township/Cromowell Township area, McConnellstown/Walker Township, and in the Alexandria/Petersburg areas. In Blair County, I pick some up right away in Catharine and Logan Townships. If you have any Isenberg names in your family from Huntingdon or Blair Counties, I'd love to hear from you just to get all of the siblings and children straight and matched up. I just spent some time today in the Huntingdon County court house recording Isenberg wills, so if I can help anyone with what I found in those wills, I'll be glad to share that info and any I have in my database. Thanks, Deb
This is not much help with your Isenberg family but my ancestor from Huntingdon Co. bought a farm in Richland Co., Ohio about 1875 from an Isenberg and as I recall the Isenberg was a Civil War Vet. If you're interested in Ohio families that late you might look in that area.
I want to thank you for your two postings about the Stewart line. I too am interested in the line as I descend from the Robert Spencer you mentioned in your second posting on the 25th of December at 4:18 PM in the paragraph about William Stewart C261. To give you a little more information about what I know, I also have copied everything I can find on those Spencer's whether or not it relates to the Stewarts. I know who the Catherine Spencer was and who her father was, etc. and about Chester County, etc. I'm afraid I can't help you with your early Stewarts. You have posted information about the Stewarts I did not have, except for the item about Robert Spencer being appointed the guardian of a Stewart. Robert Spencer was born in Ireland in 1757 (1850 census age) and died in West Twp., Huntingdon Co. in 1850, just after the census evidently. I believe him to be a brother of the John Spencer in Alexandria for a number of reasons but haven't made the positive connection yet. That John was also born in Ireland but in 1754. John is found owning land in the late 1700's in West Twp. even though he was a near resident to the village of Alexandria. I have never found that Robert actually owned land there even though he was in that location for many years. Robert married a Hannah __?__. (Stewart?) My connection to Robert Spencer is that a codicil to Robert's will adds him to the list of his heirs before he died. He stated that my Milton Whitney, son of his daughter Sarah, was a resident of Licking Co., Ohio. Milton was my great-grandfather. Sarah evidently died shortly after Milton's birth due to complications (Old letter states as much and that would have been 1817 thru 1820 according to Milton's Civil War Pension Applications in which he gave different dates each time). I do not know who the father was. Milton was then brought up in Licking Co., Ohio by a Spencer Family (the letter). I know not which one but the General John Spencer of the War of 1812, Captain then, came to Licking Co. in 1805. Others of his family followed later. There are Stewart's in the neighborhood and they were from Penn. There is a short story, written by the wife of one of those Stewarts, that I have copied and if you are interested in the members of the Stewart family that went West I can probably make a copy for you. That is if I can find it. The Geek Squad reformatted my hard drive without making a proper backup first and lost a lot of information I had. If you have any more information about the Robert Spencer line I would appreciate knowing of it. Thanks again for your postings. Ben Whitney in California.
