I am related to the Hights and McCartneys, and I have the death notice of John P. McCartney. It names 6 children that survive him. One is a daughter Mrs W. S. Decker of Harrisburg, PA. The date of the newspaper was March 6, 1899.It just says Semi Weekly News March 6, 1899. I got this information from a Bob McCartney in Denver, CO, in 2006. He sent me 470 pages on the family!! AWilliam Decker is mentioned as being acquainted with Cyrus M. Swope, but there are no dates. It only says that Wm knew him before he was married. In the Huntingdon Dailey News , August 10 1925, it states that the MCCartney family had a reunion. It named Mrs. McCartney Decker of Harrisburg, and Mrs. Mina Decker McElwain of Duncannon as attending the event. I got this from casually looking through the info that Bob MCcartney sent me. I think that W.S. Decker must have died a good while before his wife, although I don't know. I just haven't found his name anymore. Margaret Hight was my great grandmother. She was married to James A. Mitchell. Margaret was the daughter of Ahashel Hight, and Hannah Brumbaugh. Margaret died having their 2nd child. My grandmother was only 2 years old. She was raised my Margaret's sister, Melissa, who was married to Mordecai Gahagan. My dad was named for him. I was 5 years old when Melissa died, and I remember her a little. I have a picture of my sister and I with her, and I remember when it was taken. They and a lot of the rest of the family are buried in Riverview Cemetery in Huntingdon, PA. The McCartney connection is from the marriage of John McCartney to Temperance Hight.. I hope that what I've written may in some small way, help you.I've been working on my genealogy for over 10 years and sometimes just some little bit of info can open a door and you'll find a whole lot. It has happened with me , more than once, including the Hight family. I knew very little about them, because my great grandmother died when my grandmother was only 2 years old. Her father remarried, and that wife was the one that my dad knew and talked about when I was little. She died when I was in high school. Keep looking and if I can help , I'll be glad to. I live in Florida , but grew up in Altoona, PA. My husband was from there also, but he died 5 years ago of cancer. My 3 grown children all live in FL I have 9 grandchildren. too. My roots currently are in Franklin Co, where I found reference to a James Parks and Fanny Kerr, and have assumed they are related to Thomas and Ann Kerr Parks. James and Fanny ended up in Ohio or Kentucky as I recall - will have to check my notes. Also, I've wondered if this Thomas has any connections to the Park/s from Manor of Maske. I've been trying to trace his family. I did find a record of James Parks born about 1854 who died about 1903 in Franklin, Venango County, PA, but I'm not sure if this is the same James Parks married to my great-great grandmother. Maria Jane Scott Parks (who usually went by the name Jane), was born about 1854 and died in 1931. I believe her parents may have been John Scott and Tamer Williams Scott or she had some family relationship to the Scott family. Tamer Williams Scott was previously married to Thomas Kerr who died about 1834. I hope we can link the information in our families.
