Carolyn, it's not often that I can help YOU! Yes, your Flemings are connected. Samuel Fleming (b: 1783-Shade Gap, Huntingdon Co; d: 1860) was brother of Jane Fleming Gamble. Both were children of James Fleming (of the will that was proven in 1825) and wife Annie Morton who were buried in the Fleming Farm Cemetery, Neelyton PA. I have senior James Fleming's death as 21 Mar 1822. James and Annie Morton Fleming (my 5th great grandparents) had the following children: 1. Robert Morton (c1777-1858) m: Catherine Campbell (1776-1846) - my 4th great grandparents 2. Samuel (1783-1860) m: Elizabeth Kennedy 3. Thomas Morton (c1785-1868) m: Elizabeth Richardson 4. John (1786-1862) 5. Anne (1786-1857) m: Thomas Walker 6. Jane (c1787 - ) m: James W. Gamble (1778-Bef 1829) 7. Sarah (c1788 - ) m: Welch 8. Elizabeth (c1789 - 1875) m: George Richardson 9. Rachel (1790 - ) m: Curry 10. Catherine (c1791-Bef 1825) m: Matthew Curry (1782-1870) 11. Presty Richardson Fleming -- this child is more likely the offspring of either #3 or 8. Your Samuel and his wife Elizabeth had at least one other son, James (1810-1863) who married Elizabeth Shirley. Ladonna I have a considerable amount of info on the Curfman families but only information one of your people, Anna Curfman daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth (Snare) Curfman. I too have her death as 1859. And she married Daniel Montgomery, as you already know. None of the Susan or Susannah Curfman match your info. If you find anything please contact me. I am on the trial basis right now but do intend to join. I believe you asked about my Grandfather's wife & children. My Grandmother was Mary Frances Carlisle, they had 2 children. my Mother Thelma Jean, named after Papa's sister and Calvin Lee. My mother died on December 13, 1996, my Uncle is still living. Mary (Grandma) died January 3 1990. The census showed Papa died in December, it was actually October 25th 1965. He was killed on the Dan Ryan Expressway in Chicago. They were married in 1808 by Rev Amos McGinley who performed marriages in Fannett and Metal twps in Franklin County and just across the line in Huntingdon and Fulton Counties. The only child that I have for them is William Fleming, born c 1811 who married Eleanor Worthington in 1831 (also married by Rev McGinley) McGinley also married Jane Fleming and James Gamble in 1818. Jane was the daughter of James Fleming whose will was proven 24 dec 1825 in Dublin Twp, Huntingdon Co, so there may be a connect to all these Flemings. The June 1880 census lists the children of Hedges and Mary Jane Heaster as Alfred, 8; Elva Z.,6; and Lennie, 3 monthes old. The 1890 census has been destroyed. Other documents indicate several boys born later, and one girl, Lanie, born July 10, 1888, or boy, Lennie, also listed as having been born on the same date, who seems not to have survived as she or he is not listed in the father's will if 1916. They may have been twins, but it seems more likely to have been one child, with one clerk making an error in reporting the child's sex. Lanie and Lennie are so close together in sound that reason dictates that it was the same baby. Jacob Hedges Heaster's will mentions AN, LE. HC, JE, JL, JM, AND JA, all sons. The last, James Arnett, adopted, was actually his grandson, the illegitimate son of James L., if the marraige book is accurate, James Arnette was born in 1906. The first Lennie, from the 1880 census, must have died, as a second Lennie was born in 1888. The 1900 census has three sons living at home: HC, 17; Joseph E., 16; and Jon L., 13. The family is not mentioned in the 1910 census. In the June 1880 Greenbrier County census she is listed as Elva Z., age seven, a schoolgirl, adding at least three more years to her life. The records of Greenbrier County indicate that she was twenty-two on November 29, 1895, when she bore an illegitimate male child, whose supposed father was an unskilled laborer named George Woldridge (Book 1, p.230, line 310). It appears that people guessed at ages, rather than keeping accurate account. From the dates on Zona's tombstone, 1876-1897, it appears that she was twenty-one at the time of her death, not twenty-two, as her death certificate reads. Actually she was probably twenty-four. According to census records the absence of any child born in or near 1885 to the Hedges Heaster family indicates that Zona's illegitimate child was raised by someone else. He could have died in infancy, but if so, his death is not recorded. All efforts to discover anything at all about him have been unfruitful. Today there are Woolridges living in the area (no Woldridges or Waldridges), but they don't seem to know of any Georges among the family names. That he is called Heaster in the birth book would seem to indicate that he would be accepted and raised by him. But apparently that was not the case, For anyone wishing to know more about the murder of Zona Heaster Shue two excellent books on the subject are "The Greenbrier Ghost and Other Strange Stories by Dennis Deitz and The Man Who Wanted Seven Wives by Katie Letcher Lyle.
