He married Minnie Goss, and they had one child, Ambrose Goss who was my father. I met a relative many years ago in Holidaysburg, PA whose name I believe was David Long and who was a Methodist minister about to move to Ohio. I'm a neophyte at genealogical research but do have a thread on your lineage back to Anson that shows a contemporary named David Long, possibly one and the same? We definitely do have an ancestral commonality and would like to hear more from you. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Could whoever linked those names together over the last couple of days make the context clear... The volunteer who was transcribing this book http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/pa/1pa/church/chaffee/chaffee.htm has had to stop work on it, and I'm wondering if there are any good typists with free time who'd like to help get the rest of the book online. It can't be OCRed. I have a good OCR program, but the type is small and the printing in the book isn't all that great. More errors than it's worth. This is a little out of our geographic area, but a worthwhile project nonetheless. If you're interested, please email me so we can discuss the project. Thanks, Judy

Good afternoon! I am still looking for information on the Jacob Yeager family. He was born ca 1821, married Ann Eliza Copley ca 1848, and had 12 children: William, Edward, Blair, Mary G., Della Gertrude, Wilson, Henry C. (or Harry), Franklin P., Anna M., Lloyd L., Robert G., and Howard S. In 1850 he was in Birmingham Borough, Huntingdon County, in 1860 in Tyrone Twp., Arch Spring Post Office, Blair County, in 1870 Warriors Mark Twp., Huntingdon County, and in 1880 in Halfmoon Twp., (Taylor), Centre County. I know county lines shifted so it is possible that he was living in the same place for all those years? I would like to find out who his father was. Any and all information to help me would be most appreciated. Thank you so much! Cindy in NC P.S. I'm sending his to Huntingdon, Blair and Centre County mailing lists. I apologize for duplicate posts for those of you who are subscribed to all three.

Mimi Reed wrote the court house guide http://www.rootsweb.com/~pahuntin/courthouse.htm so I asked her about adoption records. She referred me to this excellent explanation of PA Adoption records - http://www.bastards.org/activism/local/pa/paseal.htm Mimi, who isn't subbed to the mailing list, said --- and I quote her here --- "From the Register and Recorder of Huntingdon County I learned that adoptions which took place in Huntingdon County prior to 1954 were not sealed. I have found adoptions in the continuance dockets prior to that time, although I didn't go looking for any real late ca 1940s adoptions to prove the point. The later ones I can assure you are sealed, as the padlocked docket attests. "It has been my experience that whenever officialdom, especially at the state level, is officially approached about adoption they say everything is sealed because they don't want to touch the issue. While I do not work with adoptees and have done almost no research on the issue in PA, I did have one client who was adopted in 1945 from a PA county. When she asked for her adoption records she was told she could have them if she could prove that all parties to the adoption were dead. At the time that I did this research I also did some research into adoption in PA. Please see the attachment I have enclosed." The attachment was a .doc version of what's on the page for which that link is provided, above, which can't be included here as we can't send attachments to RootsWeb mailing list messages. Mimi also said, "If this person's mother was adopted I would suggest that she go to the county where they think the adoption took place, and without announcing that they are looking for an adoption (at which point they will be told they are all sealed), that she look at the continuance dockets, for her surname name both in the plaintiff and defendant indexes. "Any further questions can be addressed to the Register and Recorder in Huntingdon County. Feel free to mention my CH guide as the source of information." --- Mimi Reed Be sure to read the court house guide at http://www.rootsweb.com/~pahuntin/courthouse.htm if you have further questions. There are links on the page to the court site and a contact email. Hope this helps, Judy

Reading through the lkink Deb provided, I found the following: " Continuance Dockets These are records of civil court proceedings, such as divorces and adoptions. Adoptions which took place prior to 1954 are not sealed. " My mother was born in 1917 (not in Huntingdon County, but in PA) When contacting the state records division, I have been told that ALL adoptions are sealed. Is anyone else more familiar with this? I was shocked to read on this link that Huntingdon Co adoptions prior to 1954 are not sealed. Is it a typo perhaps? Great! Thanks Fred. No I haven't had a chance to check Bland yet. I trying to get caught up notes. At the moment I am trying to figure out why Frank Ebbs was shown as living with Lytle's on the 1910 census record & Beck's on the 1920 records with Gray's on the same page. There were 2 Ebbs girls Helen Gertrude & Mable Irene living with their Beck grandparents on the 1900 census records in Halfmoon. Frank's birth date matches around the birth of these Beck/Ebbs girls father Harry Gray Ebbs b. 02/28/1963 so, I guess he couldn't be an unknown missing child of Harry's then. I will have to add Wilbur to the list. Thanks for checking & the reply. David, When you say "original" tax lists for Huntingdon county, are you referring to the fact that Huntingdon was created from Bedford county in 1787, and that you're looking for records earlier than 1787? I don't know about Bedford having the Huntingdon tax lists, but BCGS has those lists on microfilm http://www.rootsweb.com/~pabcgs/holdings.html - look down at the bottom of the page. And HCHS has them, of course, for 1788-1876 - http://www.huntingdonhistory.org/genealog.htm The Pioneer Library (Bedford) has their tax holdings listed here - http://www.rootsweb.com/~paphsbc/Microfilms1.html You can also order Huntingdon tax records at your local LDS church Family History Center - Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, tax assesment records, 1788-1833 - Baree Township 1788-1833; West Township 1797-1833; Huntingdon Township 1788-1814 FHL US/CAN Film 2243313 Huntingdon Township, 1807-1814 ; Henderson Township, 1807-1814 ; Porter Township, 1807-1814 ; Walker Township, 1807-1814 FHL US/CAN Film 1148578 Hopewell Township, 1823-1843 ; Union Township, 1792-1833 ; Shirley Townships, 1888-1833 ; Dublin Township, 1788-1833 FHL US/CAN Film 1148579 Dupblin Township, 1798-1833 ; Springfield Township, 1790-1833 ; Tell Township 1810-1833 FHL US/CAN Film 1148580 Franklin Township, 1790-1833 ; Warriors Mark Township, 1798-1833 ; Morris Township, 1752-1883 FHL US/CAN Film 1148581 Tax and exoneration lists, 1788-1789, for Huntingdon County - Taxes 1788-1789 FHL US/CAN Film 1027051 Item 4 Hope this helps, Judy ----- Original Message ----- From: <dlutz22901@aol.com> To: <PAHuntin@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, February 15, 2008 12:26 PM Subject: [PAHUNTIN] Bedford address Sir: I understand that the original tax lists for Huntingdon County are now in Bedford.
