Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 14, at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with Pastor Richard Moms officiating. Interment was made in Orbisonia Cemetery. Born Sept. 25, 1898 in Shirley township, Huntingdon County, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Laura (Stubbs) Smith. She was united in marriage to Charles E. Higgins. Mr. Higgins preceded her in death in 1971. Surviving is a son, Charles R. Higgins, Orbisonia, a grandson, Lynn Higgins of Huntingdon and one great-grandson, Tyler Higgins of Huntingdon. Mrs. Higgins was a member of the Shirleysburg United Methodist Church, Shirleysburg. During her lifetime she was a homemaker. She also was a voluntary observer for aircraft at Shirleysburg during World War H. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, at the M. R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown. Interment was made in the Wells Valley Presbyterian Cemetery, Wells Tannery. Born Nov. 26, 1980 in Mount Union, Huntingdon County, he was the son of Andrew S. and Victoria (Fields) Johnson, Sr. Survivors include his parents of Battle Ridge Road, McConnellsburg, along with two brothers and two sisters: Stanley Fields with the U.S. Army in Germany; Bobby J. Johnson, McConnellsburg; Angela Zelanko, Breezewood; Ashley M. Johnson, McConnellsburg. Also surviving is a step-sister, Billie Jo Foor, Bedford and a step-brother, Terry Lee Johnson, McConnellsburg. Andy was employed as a construction worker. He had been active in high school sports and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was of the Presbyterian faith. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 13, at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, Pa. Interment was made in Nossville Cemetery, RD, Blairs Mills. Born July 9, 1914 in Tell Township, Huntingdon County, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Nettie (Parsons) Kling. She was united in marriage to William T. Schwar Sr., who preceded her in death 1995. Surviving is one son, William T. Schwar Jr. of Overland Park, Kansas, and two grandsons. Also surviving is one brother, Jacob Kling, Gastonia, N.C., and one sister, Mary Metzger, Orlando, Fla. She was preceded in death by one sister, Lena Baker and two brothers, Calvin and Paul. Mrs. Schwar was a member of the Church of the Resurrection, Leawood, Kansas. During her lifetime she was a homemaker and had also worked as a secretary in Lakewood, Calif. Prior to that she was employed at the Sears Roebuck Co. Parsons, 92, of Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, and formerly of RD, Orbisonia, died at 7:33 p.m. Wednesday, August 16 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Barry Warren, Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg. Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 19, at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with Pastor Dayton Sines and Rev. Ronald Dull officiating. Interment was made in Orbisonia Cemetery. She was born February 26, 1914 in Cromwell Township, Huntingdon County, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Laura J. (Runk) Shope. Mrs. Parsons was married to L. Herman Parsons on March 21,1932. Mr. Parsons preceded her in death on February 22, 1994. She is survived by two sons: Robert H. Parsons of RD, Orbisonia and James E. Parsons of RD, Mapleton and four daughters Mildred M Dell of Shade Gap, Anna G. Zeigler of Chambersburg, Ruth E. Guyer of Hollidaysburg, and Carol J. Warren of Chambersburg. There are numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Parsons has two sisters, Rose Berkich and Mary Roland and one brother, William Shope, along with one granddaughter that preceded her in death. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Parsons attended the New Life Fellowship Church of God, Mount Union. Emma Isabel Sheets, 87, a resident of the Shirley Home for the Aged, Shirleysburg and formerly of Blacklog Valley Road, died at 1:15 p.m., Tuesday, August 12 at the Huntingdon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Huntingdon. Funeral services were held on Friday, August 18 at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia with Rev. Jack Lancaster and Rev, George "Buddy" Baird officiating. Interment was made in IOOF Cemetery, Rockhill Furnace. She was born January 5, 1919 in Shirley Township, Huntingdon County, she was the daughter of the late Wesley and Helen (Wrigley) Snyder. Mrs. Sheets was united in marriage to Robert J. Sheets on January 29, 1940 by Rev. W. H. Sowash at Huntingdon. Mr. Sheet preceded her in death on March 5, 1992. She is survived by a son, Robert W. Sheets and wife, Annette of Ridgley, MD and two daughters, Alice Lancaster and husband, Eugene of Blacklog Valley, and Sara Knepp and husband, Robert of Orbisonia. There are nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. Mrs. Sheets is also survived by two brothers: Alfred Snyder of Olanta, PA and Gerald Snyder of Orbisonia. She was preceded in death by four brothers, James, John, Ray, and Charles and a sister, Florence. Mrs. Sheets was a graduate of Orbisonia High School Class of 1937. She was primarily a homemaker. She enjoyed babysitting and over the years helped her husband with farming and sawmilling. Mrs. Sheets was a member of the Huntingdon County Farm Women Society Group II. She was a member of the Valley Point Church of the Brethren, where she served on the church board, was a choir member and was an Assistant Sunday School Secretary. Edith Arvin Lightner Immokalee, FL Edith Arvin Lightner, 100, of Immokalee, died March 13, 2008. Formerly of Petersburg, PA, she had resided here since 1973 and was a life-time member and officer of the Loyal Order Of Moose Auxiliary. Edith is survived by one daughter, Marval (Harold) Bennett; five sons, Ronald (Yvonne) Lightner, Cecil William Lightner, Robert (Ann) Lightner, Martin (Sandy) Lightner, Alfred Lightner; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil A.; son, Barry; three sisters, Beatrice, Adelaide, Euleia and five brothers, Walter, Frederick, Ray, Jay and Melvin. Hasenstab? Also, did Peter Zeek have a brother Louis Zeek married to a Barbara Stenger, half sister of Annie, and living in Johnstown, PA. Barbara died in 1923 and I believe Louis may have moved to the state of Indiana. I think I may have corresponded with you a few years ago and you told me you had an aunt that said Mary Hasenstab was the daughter of Annie Zeek.     3. Daryl Victor Watkins, 59, of East Hudson Street, Three Springs, died at 7:30 a.m., Saturday, September 23, at J.C. Blair Hospital, Huntingdon. Funeral service was held Wednesday, September 27, at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with Rev. Steve Heaster and Rev. James Hodges officiating. Interment was made in Cherry Grove Cemetery, RD; Three Springs. He was born March 21, 1947, in Huntingdon. He was the son of the late Harry V. and Chloe (Marks) Watkins. He was married to Linda L. Gartland who preceded in death in 1976. He later married Bonnie G. (Feathers) Watkins on April 8, 1978. Mrs. Watkins survives at their home. Mr. Watkins is survived by a son, Victor Watkins and wife, Denise of HCR 73, Three Springs, and two daughters, Connie McMath andhusband Bernard of Orbisonia and Renae Schunk and husband, Douglas of Huntingdon. There are five grandchildren. He is survived by two sisters, Violet Benson of HCR 73, Three Springs and Flora Parsons of Shade Gap. Mr. Watkins served on the Three Springs Borough Council, was President of the Three Springs Lions Club and was a former member of the Southern Huntingdon School Board. He was also a member of Cromwell Lodge # 572, Free and Accepted Mason, Orbisonia, and belonged to the Three Springs Vol. Fire Co. He had worked over 39 years at U. S. Silica, Mapleton Depot where he was a maintenance supervisor. Mr. Watkins was a member of Immanuel Bible Church, HCR 73, Three Springs, where he was a member of the church council. She was married to Owen S. Stinson who preceded in death July 7, 1980.     3. David E. "Duce" Staley, 40, of RR1, Mapleton, died at 9:40 a.m., Thursday, September 21 at his home following an extended illness. Funeral service was held Monday, September 25 at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia with Pastor Dan Long officiating. Interment was made at Saltillo Cemetery. He was born April 14, 1966 at Huntingdon, he was the son of the late Glenn E. Staley and Martha (Baker) Staley McGarvey who I' survives of Lloydsville along with his step father Chuck McGarvey. He was once married to the former Stacey Whitsel who survives of Three Springs. He then married the former Bobbi Jo Gartland who survives at their home. Also surviving are the following children: Gabrielle Staley and Seth Staley, both at home. The following siblings also survive: Diane Woomer of Mapleton; Doris Reed of Huntingdon; Dolores Shultz of Huntingdon; Donald Barcelona of Mount Union and Leslie Barcelona of Fort Myers, FL Also the following step brothers and sister survive: Patricia Wiseman of Lloydsville, Charles McGarvey of Lloydsville; Joseph McGarvey of Lloydsville and Frank McGarvey of Lloydsville. One brother, Dominic Barcelona, preceded in death. Mr. Staley was a member of Madden-Wennick Post 518, American Legion Rockhill Furnace, Blue Juniata Post 5754 VFW, Mount Union and the Three Springs Volunteer Fire County. He retired from SCI Huntingdon after 13 years service as a corrections officer. He was a member of the CERT Team and the FERT Team. Mr. Staley was a veteran of the US Army National Guard serving in Kosovo. He was a past track champion at Hill Valley Speedway and Path Valley Speedway in the Mini Stock Division.     3. Janet M. Centi, 74, of RD1, Three Springs, died at 3:35 a.m. Monday, September 18, at the Shippensburg Health Care Center, Shippensburg. Funeral service was held on September 22, at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with Rev. Kenneth Grundon officiating. Interment was made at Three Springs Cemetery. She was born July 4, 1932 at Three Springs, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Della (Bollinger) Booher. She was married to Domenico J. Centi on February 9, 1952 at Winchester, VA. Mr. Centi survives at their home. Also surviving are the following children: Carla Shochat and her husband Dr. Stephen of Germantown, TN; Michael Centi and his wife Margaret of Three Springs; Steven Centi and his wife Audreanna of Clearfield; Mark Centi and his wife Lori of Huntingdon and Lori Speer and husband Randy of Shippensburg. Mrs. Centi also has 13 grandchildren surviving also. The following brothers and sister survive: Chester Ray Booher of Three Springs; Eva Louise Holobinko of Fruta, CO and Bernard Booher of Saltillo. Three brothers and three sisters are deceased. Mrs. Centi retired from the Southern Huntingdon County School District after 27 years of service as a cafeteria worker. She was a member of the Grace Methodist Church, Three Springs and the Otterbien Ladies Sunday school class of the church.     3. Mary E. Mort, 92, of Orbisonia, died at 6:45 a.m., Tuesday, March 22 at Woodland Retirement Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 24 at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia with Rev. Shelby McCoy officiating. Interment will be made at the Orbisonia Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-9 pm. Wednesday and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Born July 3, 1912 at Saxton, she was the daughter of the late Charles Monroe and Ida (May) Hile. She was married to Alfred L. "King" Mort on Feb. 1, 1936 at Hagerstown, MD. Mr. Mort preceded her in death on Feb. 16, 1989. Mrs. Mort is survived by one daughter, Sharynn Book and her husband Garry of RD Three Springs; four grandchildren: Dara Lynn Bennett, Krista Scott, G. Joel Book and Andrea Book; and seven great-grandchildren: Paul Bennett, Nicholas Bennett, Jarrett Scott, Madison Book, Dalton Bennett, Shayna Scott and Gabrielle Scott. She is also survived by two sisters, Martha Black of Morrison's Cove Nursing Home in Martinsburg and Grace DeLong of Cincinnati, OH. Mrs. Mort was preceded in death by three brothers: Theodore, Harry Otis and Robert; and one sister, Iva Carper. Mrs. Mort was a member of the Rockhill Church of the Brethren, Rockhill Furnace, where she had over 50 years of perfect attendance. She also served as Sunday School teacher, a Bible School teacher, was on the Home Dept. of the church and also enjoyed making haps for missionary work. Although not a member, she was always active in helping with the Orbisonia-Rockhill Vol. Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. During her life she was mainly a homemaker, however, during World War II she was employed at Eastern Aircraft, Baltimore, MD. She also provided childcare for a number of children in the Orbisonia area being expecially fond of Lisa Grubb and Julie Doyle. Mrs. Mort also enjoyed collecting ceramic angels.
