A mass of Christian burial was held Jan. 26 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Shade Gap, with Rev. Fr. George Koharchik as the celebrant. Interment was made in Saint Mary's Cemetery. Funeral services were under the direction of the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia. Born Oct. 22, 1914, in Springfield, Mass., she was the daughter of the late George and Winifred (Yorke) Pond. She was married to Robert Phillips. Mr. Phillips survives of HC 83, Shade Gap. Mrs. Phillips is also survived by two daughters and one son: Laura Osgood of Saugus, Mass.; William Sarro of Sarasota, Fla.; and Norma Phillips of Staten Island, N.Y. Twenty grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren also survive. One son, James Sarro, preceded her in death. She was a member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church, Shade Gap, where she had been active in the Ladies Guild and other church activities. Eileen E. Varner, 80, of HCR 71 Orbisonia, died at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at her home in Cromwell Township, Huntingdon County, following an extended illness. Born Feb. 14, 1921, in Akron, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Raymond E. and Edna (Alexander) Gartland. She was married to Jay C. Varner on June 19, 1937, in Hagerstown, Md. Born Oct. 8, 1917, in Dublin Township, Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late Harry A. and Melissa (Traxler) Cowan. He was united in marriage to Madaline (Wilson) Cowan on March 17, 1942. Rick Eminhizer. Interment was in St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery. Born June 3, 1937, in Blacklog Valley, Cromwell Township, Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late Clarence and Dorothy (Smith) Ergler. He was united in marriage to Sandra (Long) Ergler who survives at their home. Surviving are the following children: Melissa Fleming of Shade Valley, Patricia Corrie of HCR Orbisonia, Donald J. "Joe" Ergler of El Paso, Texas, and Earlene Hampson of Chambersburg. There are nine grandchildren. Warren C. Keebaugh, 80, of Bedford, died at 7:55 a.m., Monday, May 14, 2001, at his home in Bedford Township, Bedford County, following an extended illness. The Fulton Honor Guard conducted a military service at the memorial service. Born Sept. 17, 1920, at Fort Littleton, he was a son of the late Chalmer and Mary (Mock) Keebaugh. He was united in marriage to the former Miriam G. Mellott on June 18, 1948, at McConnellsburg. Mrs. Keebaugh survives at their home. Also surviving is a daughter, Deborah M. Hurd of Carmichaels and two granddaughters, Elizabeth Homistek of RD Harrisonville and Tiffany O'Neill of Easton, both of whom were reared in the Keebaugh home. Mr. Keebaugh was preceded in death by six brothers. He was of the Protestant faith. Mr. Keebaugh was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 480, Bedford. He retired from Operating Engineers Local 66, Pittsburgh, after 40 years of service. Mr. Keebaugh was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army with the military police. Wendy, I have one Wogan in my files from the Tell/Shirley Township area. Gertrude Lerue Wogan 1879-1939 married Harry Lawrence Bard on 23 Dec 1903. Two children Cloyd and Pauline. After Gertrude died, Harry married Mary "Irene" Parson (my Great-Grandmother Margaret Jane Parson Ridenour Shoop's sister). I do not have Gertrude's parent names. Emma C. "Jane" McClain, 86, formerly of Cassville, Pa. and more recently of North Canton, Ohio, died at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000 at her home. Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 12, at the Calvary Independent Baptist Church, Saltillo with Rev. Willi am Berkheiser, Rev. David Ford and Rev. Thomas Maurer officiating. Interment was in the Cassville Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Robert I. McClain Furneral Home, Cassville. Born Nov. 5, 1914 at Saltillo, she was a daughter of the late Miles W. and Alice (Smyers) Cornelius. She was united in marriage to Robert I. McClain on Dec. 25, 1939 at Saltillo. Mr. McClain survives at their home. Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Myron and Peggy McClain, of North Canton, Ohio, and three grandchildren, Amanda, Matthew and Andrew. Two sisters survive, Mildred Crum of Cassville and Ruth Hales of Venice, Ha. One daughter, Sarah Louise McClain, one brother, Ralph Cornelius, and five sisters, Mabel Cornelius, Laura Kelly, Mary Bysher, Ethel Ford and Elma Crotsley preceded her in death. She graduated from Saltillo High School in 1932, received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Masters of Education from Shippensburg State Teachers College in 1958 and taught in the Southern Huntingdon County School District for 30 years. Mrs. McClain was a member of the Calvary Independent Baptist Church of Saltillo, where she served many years as church organist. She was also a member of the Huntingdon Chapter 159 Order of the Eastern Star, the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees and the Huntingdon County Retired Teachers Association. Nancy L. Booher, 57, of P.O. Box 65, Shirleysburg, died at 5:40 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at the Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 13, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Raymond Hill officiating. Interment was in Germany Valley Cemetery, RR 1, Shirleysburg. Born Dec. 31, 1942, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the late Vernon "Wimp" and Betty (Traxler) Brumbaugh. She was united in marriage to James K. Booher on April 13, 1963 in Mount Union by Rev. Albert Haught. Her husbandsurvives along with their two daughters: Susan Fortney, RR1, Mount Union, and Amy Harven, Denver, two granddaughters, and three grandsons. Also surviving is a sister and brother, Brenda L. Buckley, Calvin and Vernon M. "Wimp" Brumbaugh, Lock Haven. Mrs. Booher was a graduate of Captain Jack High School, Mount Union, in the Class of 1961. She was a certified nurse's aide having worked at the Shirley Home, Shirleysburg, and at the Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia. Harry L. Unger, 65, of Mapleton, Pa., died at 11:45 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000 at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Private services were held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were under the direction of the Robert I. McClain Funeral Home, Cassville. Born Sept. 12, 1935 in Quincy Twp., Franklin County, he was the son of the late Harry P. Unger and Zaida (Shaffer) Unger who survives at Waynesboro, Pa. He was united in marriage toJune A. Hardy who survives at their home. Surviving are the following children: Wanda Gearhart, Newton Hamilton; Harry P. Unger, Tarena Snyder and Michael Unger all of Mapleton and six grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Lois Baker, Cascade, Md. Mr. Unger was of the Protestant faith. During his lifetime he was employed as a school bus driver at the Mount Union Area School District until retirement in 1998.
