Steve, Here are the directions as I remember them. When I visited a few years ago there were only a few gravestones remaining. Fortunately the ones in which I was interested were in good condition. I was there a year or so ago. Enter Germany Valley from Shirleysburg and then take a right turn leading to the Old Stone Church. (I don't remember the road names) At the church turn left. Go a short distance, less than 1/2 mile and take a right turn up a short road. The road on which you'll turn right is just before a 90 degree curve to the left. At the top of the short road is a small area between the houses that has a wooden fence around it. This is the cemetery and Debra Black is buried there. Her husband was Samuel Bard who is my gg-grandfather, only I'm descended through his first wife. From Steve Kemp, Huntingdon. This afternoon four volunteers/ staff (and me) at HCHS library considered this Wakefield Chapel question. There are several cemetery listings/ compilations there including an ongoing project to name and locate "all" the cemeteries and nothing on this particular name. One of the people who talked this over is the daughter of a man who was pastor at Germany Valley Church of the Brethren. She is pretty sure she recalls her father mention Wakefield Chapel as a local vicinity name (not as an active church). She says there is a small cemetery "on a hill" not far from the church her father pastored (that church property is the location of a well-known cemetery where most Germany Valley folk, including Wakefields, are interred); maybe this is what your're looking for. That is definitely Shirley Township. By the way- Mrs. Wheland's cemetery material lists Wakefield Cemetery as an alternate name for Brady Township's Detweiler Cemetery. Her transcription of that farm cemetery has only two Wakefields listed: Elizabeth, died 1856; and Eli, died 1867. No Bards there at all. Steve Kemp

A farm cemetery which we have been trying to locate is the Wakefield Chapel Cemetery in Huntingdon County which I understand is on a farm. Some evidence says near Barree (?), some points to near Shirley Twp. Does anyone know the location of this cemetery? We are researching the Bard, Black, Minick, Minnick, Daniels line Thank you for any help you can give us.

I appreciate everyone has helped me with this. I haven't found the graves she was referring to but have some good leads. Someone mentioned yesterday that this may be Crow cemetery. I don't think that is what she was referring to. Crow cemetery was on the land of another of my ancestors - Jacob Crow - it remained his land until 1834 when his son John Crow sold it to Jacob Hegie. Abraham Bolinger's second wife was one of Jacob Crow's daughters - and I believe his land was very close to or maybe adjoining Jacob Crow's. The book that had the notation was written by the Standing Stone Chapter of the DAR in Huntingdon Co. in 1970. It was filmed in 1972 - so the notation was made about 30 years ago. I sincerely appreciate your help. Linda

Mike - That would be great. I don't know much about the area at all - but I do know that from deeds and census records it appears that he lived somewhere near Jacob Crow. The Crow Cemetery is still there on what used to be Jacob Crow's land. I don't see the description of the location here exactly, but I remember it said it was near "pineridge" in Tell. There are Shoops buried there, I know - so it sounds like it might be the right farm. I appreciate your help.
