Isaac Miller's 3rd wife, Rachel Emma Clayton, married George Swartz. He was 71 on the 1880 census, and she was 30. They had a baby also named George. Rachel (b. ab 1850) was a daughter of William Clayton b. 1806. From the Huntingdon Globe 6 Aug 1879: Geo. Swartz of Orbisonis to Mrs. Rachel E. Cummings of Tuscarora Valley by Aaron M. Shoop Esq. I haven't yet figured out how many times Rachel Emma Clayton was married, but at least 3. After she married Isaac Miller in 1882/3, it was discovered that her divorce from Mr. Cummings was invalid. After that was cleared up, she and Isaac were remarried. George Swartz had died in 1882. Isaac Miller died in 1885. Isaac Miller (b. ab 1830) married first Mary Jane Moreland. They had a son Thomas who died 27 Apr 1858, age 6 yrs 10 mo. They may have had a daughter, Clara, b. 1860. Second wife was Roseanna Snyder 1836 - 1879. Their children were David Grant Miller b 1864 and Amanda b. 1867. Third wife was Rachel Emma Cayton, Cummings, Swartz. Their daughter, Olive, was born ab 1884. I am descended from wife #2, Roseanna Snyder. If anyone has any more information on these families, it would be much appreciated. _______

I haven't looked for warrants in Huntingdon Co and am sure someone on here has and will help you. But you could also write to State Archives in Harrisburg and ask for a copy of their microfilm. Hello, Today I came into posession of an article on Daniel Swartz, son of George and Sarah (Flasher) Swartz. He was born near Orbisonia on Aug. 28, 1839. He is not an ancestor of mine, but I thought perhaps it might be of interest to someone else. It is a very interesting article, written by one of his children and details quite specificly his participation in the Civil War. He married Charlotte Madden. If there is anyone that would be interested in the 5 page history, I will be happy to share. Helen
Does anyone know anything about the 'Pennsylvania Archives, Series 10'? I didn't realize they went up so high. Anyway, I am looking for Vol. 20, pg 143. If anyone has access to this could they let me know. thanks, Kathy Wells. JAN, I'm sorry to say your message was a little hard to follow......kind of choppy. But, let me say this, our problem is we can't get any further back than Joshua Brown b.ca 1765. So, we really don't know yet rather or not they might tie together. It is very possible because we do have some information on Joshua in Cumberland Co, ...as you say it was Huntingdon used to be Bedford and before that Cumberland. But I just don't see anything familiar yet. Wish I could be more help. We are still working on our Joshua so cross your fingers and maybe we will find some hint of exactly who his parents are and maybe it will tie into yours. Thanks, Kathy Wells. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jan Wimer" <jwimer@localnet.com> To: <PAHUNTIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, February 26, 2003 11:35 AM Subject: Re: Joshua Brown > I also interested in Brown line- My Brown's start at John Brown SR > born 1626 Priesthill, Ayrshire, Scotland Married Isabelle Wier 1682 > having children James b 1685 Scotland I have know other info and John > JR. 1884 Scotland , John was married to Frances McClellan and Hanna? > ---Frances Had children Andrew that died at sea 1720, Alexander 1722 > middletown, Dauphin co PA, (James SR. 1724 Lancaster Pa,) Benjamin 1726 > Pa, Joseph 1730 PA, (Matthew 1732 PA Married Elenore Lytle they had > John, Thomas Mary and other unnamed children in Big Springs, Cumberland > Co Pa) > I come from James SR Married Mary McClellan 1754 Cumberland co had six > children, He also married Eleanor Mordah having four children and > Susannah Simons > the children seem to live in many co of PA and than to KY and Ohio and IN > I was told that Cumberland co Pa was part of Huntingdon Co. > would your Brown's tie in to my line some how? > > Jan > > Kathy Wells wrote: > > >JANET, > > This could be very important information. Not sure how much you know about Capt. Thomas McCahan Civil War service but he was with the 9th Pa. Calvary. He enlisted as a 1st Lt. In August 1861, was promoted to Capt. and was later discharged due to wounds on August 1864. The NARA does have a pension file on him. He also has some other papers, and a a hand painted silk certificate. I think he also has a gun from him too. This was given to him from our grandfather's brother who is a decendant of Mae McCahan. She is the Daughter of John Kinney McCahan and Mary Jane McCahan (Thomas' brother and sisterinlaw) hard to follow i know. I am looking for information regarding Mae McCahan and her father John Kinney McCahan the 2nd. His father John McCahan the first was from Drumnahaigh Ireland. I dont know where i got this information from but it must have been with the items that my brother got from our grandfather's brother. In this letter/information, there are excerpts from his diary.... "Sept. 25, 1861. Left Camp Jones this afternoon. Arrive at Camp Reynold in evening about one mile from Grannoly town." "Sept, Thursday, 26th. Slept all night behind my horse. Fight reported across river, could see the smoke and dust and hear their guns very plainly." plaease contact me with anything further, Sherrie Newman sherrie@bakerb.com ps, for some reason my email is listed wrong on this site...
