Hello all: I found on the Huntingdon Cty Genweb site a list of names that I presume are in the History of Mt. Union, Shirleysburg and Shirley Twp - there is one name that belongs to my family. Is this a book? Would anyone have this book that they could look up the name I am interested in? Thank you for any help - Ahlive
I never got this message you are taking about below from the Huntington list or other wise. Why do you think it was to the list? Before everybody gets all up in arms and a feud starts, it is a quotation. I liked it and I used it. I have cited the individual who stated it, along with the date. It has nothing to do with the list. It is my signature file. It is no different than any other signature file. It is not a violation of list rules. If it is, then there can be no signature files used that contain anything other than the individuals name. If further discussion is needed, please do so off list. What has someone's personal opinion about war have to do with this list? Jane "The total and complete logical disconnect with this situation leads to one absolutely inescapable conclusion. These protestors don't care what Saddam Hussein does. They aren't concerned about his weapons or his intentions. Their entire focus is on the United States and George Bush. My problem which I don't imagine you can solve - is that all my mail list letters begin with person's name and then the mail list name and they ALL get put in my SPAM list without from me until I go through the long list and RESCUE every one. If they all started with the mail list name I could mark them for always admit but the list immediately got full when I tried and it registered all the personal names! I have a mystery Virginia Swartz that married my Uncle Charles Bartlebaugh. She was only 16 and they got their license from Indiana Co. I am looking to find it now. They married early 1930s and she was from Huntingdon Co. We have no idea how they met other than Charles worked for a trucking co. The marriage didn't last and from the WW2 papers of my Uncle he married again in 1944. In those papers I found a note from a minister asking the government what happened to Charles Bartlebaugh. He was killed in 1945. I got an idea Virginia had someone find out as it came from this Huntingdon co area. I have misplaced the papers and they have the parent's name and the town and can't remember off the top of my head. But if this story rings a bell with anyone researching the Swartz family, I would be interested to know what happened to Virginia Swartz and if there were any children--they would be my first cousins. Hi Dottie, My e-mail address is Hitudy@aol.com My name is Helen and I am the one that has the 5 page history on the Swartz family.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! It is not the list junk/spam mail. It is the everyday junk/spam that comes thru to my e-mail address. TIP: Here is a tip for those that are able to separate their e-mail. I have mine set up to separate by subject. Now all Huntingdon, Fayette, Erie, etc. are grouped together. Even makes it easier to follow the subjects being discussed. Again, Thank You for adding it! LARRY, This is a real rip-off. You are right, they want $ 15.00 to do a name search, even though I aleady know the name, the Warrant number and now the date. I guess I will forgo this item. The LDS have the Pennsylvania Land Office info. on microfilm accessible through their Family History Centers. They have the indexes, too. Look on www.familysearch.org in their library catalogue under Pennsylvania - Land and Property. You can also find a Family History Center near you on the same site. It's a lot cheaper that way :-) Linda Hansen ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kathy Wells" <rebeltrumpet@sbcglobal.net> To: <PAHUNTIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, February 27, 2003 1:04 PM Subject: Re: [PAHUNTIN] Re: Land Warrants > LARRY, > This is a real rip-off. I added PAHUNTIN to the subject line. This is the first time anyone requested it. Also, there is almost never spam or junk mail sent to the entire list. Every once in awhile, one slips through. Most of the time the filters recognize it as spam and they are rejected and sent to the list administrator. Yes, and that has also been a cause for confusion. In the Quaker records it shows she was a widow when she married Jeremiah Brown. I am not sure who to address this to.. but is there some way that the subject line, be prefaced with something like [HUNTIN]. All of the other List Groups that I belong to have this in the subject line when you open your mailbox. I believe it is automatically done in the set up by the List Group Administrator. It would make it so much easier to keep from inadvertently opening spam or junk mail. Thanks! Jan
Please e-mail how I can get in touch with Helen who wrote regarding 5 page history on Daniel Swartz to mikendo@pa.net Thanks Dottie
Kathy, The original land warrants are held by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commisssion, Pensylvania State Archives division. The web page that will give you information on ordering records is http://www.phmc.state.pa.us/bah/dam/genie1.htm When I ordered some land warrants a few years ago they insisted that you first order a search of the name you want information for, and you HAD to use their form. My first letter of inquiry was returned with a copy of their form enclosed! The search cost $3 then, but more now. All this required the exchange of several snail mails at that time. Now you can download their order form by scrolling down the above web page to Mail Reference and click on the link provided there. After they send you the results of the name search, you can order any land applications, warrants, surveys and patents they found in their search (for more money, of course). Hope this helps.
