    3. HELEN, Yes I have that article in fact. It is a little helpful, but doesn't really answer questions about his grandfather which is the Joshua I am researching. There are 2 articles in that book, one says Joshua Brown (the grandfather) was from Lancaster Co., PA and the other says Joshua was from Maryland. That is part of my problem. I can't find any Joshua's that have a birth & death date or married the right person, to match up with mine. Thanks for trying though. Kathy Wells. ----- Original Message ----- From: <HiTudy@aol.com> To: <PAHUNTIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, March 01, 2003 9:55 PM Subject: Re: [PAHUNTIN] History of Mt. 3. NANCE, Wow, you found all kinds of little tidbits in that book by Africa. I had seen that book before and only copied the page about being Among the early settlers in the vicinity of Maddensville was Joshua Brown, who owned a tract of land up the little Aughwick Creek, now owned by the Madden brothers. I appreciate all of the other tidbits you sent. Thanks so much, Kathy Wells. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nancy Lorz" <honeypete@certainty.net> To: "Kathy Wells" <rebeltrumpet@sbcglobal.net>; <PAHUNTIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, March 01, 2003 8:20 PM Subject: Re: [PAHUNTIN] History of Mt. 3. from Steve Kemp (volunteer at Huntingdon Co. HS a number of years) Don't know whether you know any of the following "Vouchers" on slips of paper, usually quite small, were kept by executors of estates and guardians appointed by the Orphans Court of Huntingdon County. They are in effect receipts to show the Court what money was spent or received. The county courthouse had them filed alphabetically in metal drawers, Letter A, etc., to Z, half of them in the vault in the Register & Recorder's office and the other half in a basement storage room, and that was just because of space problems I suppose. Someone about 9 years ago emptied ALL the metal drawers in the basement room and took the papers all out, probably in a large briefcase and that's the last anyone has seen them. I wondered if he/she thought they were saleable as paper ephemera or wanted the hundred year old paper itself for some private project. I was the one to report them missing. After that happened the county put a lock on the door of that room, but you can get the key and work there alone even now. Also, the Huntingdon County Library has since its inception shelved books on Pa. in a "Pennsylvania Room" which is in a corner of the old section far from the circulation desk, never monitored in any way. Most libraries have either a sign-in book for such rooms along with restricted hours, and/or volunteer staffing, Huntingdon never has. Lots of stuff has gone missing out of there. People who gave a copy of their published genealogy there and not to the county historical society may as well have left it out on the street, because it soon goes there. You can share this message with the Huntingdon group list if you like. Hunt. Co. Historical Society MAY have some extras copies of a few Pa.Archives volumes, you'd have to ask Nancy Shedd which ones. Sometimes they sell extras or give them away. Steve Kemp

    3. I didn't find Joshua Brown or William Wagoner in the History of Mt. Union, Shirleysburg and Shirley Township. In the Africa's History of Huntingdon Co. (1883) p. 248, Joshua Brown was one of the first officers of Three Springs Lodge, No. 790, I.O.O.F. Clay twp. p. 363 Springfield township. Under Villages and Hamlets - Maddensville.Among the early settlers in the vicinity of Maddensville was Joshua Brown, who owned a tract of land up the little Aughwick Creek, now owned by the Madden brothers. Mr. Brown died in the fore part of 1882 aged ninety years. William Wagoner played tuba in the Shade Gap Cornet Band, organized in Nov. 1880. William Wagner was a Constable in Springfield twp. in 1806. In 1820, a William Waggoner was constable, same twp. William Waggoner was Supervisor in 1816 & 1822 same twp. Wm Wagoner ( 1g) in 1830. In 1872, Joshua Brown was Supervisor of Springfield Twp. The 125th Regiment War of the Rebellion. "The loss of the regiment at Antietam was one hundred and fifty, of whom only four were missing, all the remainder being killed or wounded. Amont he latter was William C. Wagoner of F company." William C. Wagoner elected prothonotary Oct. 1860 & Oct 1863. Brady township under Hamlets and Villages William J Wagner is the present postmaster of the post office of Airy Dale about 5 miles from Millcreek. William G. Wagoner was a post master in the village of Mill Creek, Brady twp pre 1880. William H. Wagoner, Pvt. Fifth Regiment Co. D I hope some of this is helpful. Nance Joshua Brown and the other name is William > Wagoner/Wagner/Waggoner. I sure would appreciate it. > thanks, Kathy Wells. >

    2. Hi Nancy, I also have a surname that lived in the Dublin Twp., and Mount Union area of Huntingdon Co., PA. Would you be willing to look up anything and anyone with the surname of SWAN or ROUSE? My direct ancestors were John McConnell Swan 1817-1903 (s/o Joseph Swan 1784-1839 & Elizabeth McConnell 1788-1868) & Mary B. Rouse 1820-1880 (d/o John Rouse 1795-1861 & Rebecca Robinson 1793-1868). And information you could provide from your books would be greatly appreciated. 3. Good morning Janet, and thank you for all the work you are putting into transcribing this information. I will be really interested when you get to Robertsdale. My grandparents, father and his sister lived there and I have only scattered information. My grandfather's uncle had land in Bedford county, so I'll be watching for information from there, too. Again, many thanks. Nancy -----Original Message----- From: Janet L.
