    3. BETTY & All, Do you have the names of their children by chance? At this point we really just don't know. We think the 2 sets of families connect somewhere, but we don't know where or how yet. We are digging at everything trying to find a tidbit of information as to who the parents of Joshua, Daniel & James Brown in Bedford/Huntingdon County were. The only connection we have to the Lancaster County group at this point is the same pattern of naming children the same names. But, the Baltimore, MD group "George Brown & Mary Stevenson' also named their children with the same name patterns. So...we now have 3 families with the same naming pattern for their children. Is this just a coincidence???? 3. SUE & Other Joshua Brown researchers, According to the original bible record copy that I have, Charlotte's last name is written Morris. I sure do wish we could find this old bible so we could 'reverify' the information, and what is or is not on the pages. I have to say, I still question this information. I believe the information is correct, but I do question still her last name, and the part about Joshua Brown born in Cumberland, MD. Again, I believe that is true also, just rather or not someone added it later. Does anyone know who actually has in their hands, the old bible???? Also, the part about Joshua Brown & Hannah Gatchell. They just can not be our Joshua Brown's parents. I would love for that to be correct, but the Quaker records and the Probate Records prove otherwise. I think in one of my other postings earlier today, I listed proof that the Joshua Brown that married Hannah Gatchell died in Lancaster County, and his two sons both named Joshua (one of them died young) also both died in Little Brittain, Lancaster County. They are all well documented in the Quaker records and they left Wills. As I was listing my information earlier though, I noticed I had a Joshua Brown b.1752 in MD. that was the son of a Benjamin and Susannah (Randall) Brown. I meant to check this out and haven't yet. Does anyone know anything about this Joshua Brown??? Thanks, Kathy Wells. ----- Original Message ----- From: "sbrowand" <sbrowand@pa.net> To: <PAHUNTIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, April 11, 2003 9:05 PM Subject: [PAHUNTIN] Joshua Brown > My records indicate that Joshua was born in 1765 and He and Charlotte are > buried in the Old School Baptist Cemetary in Silea. > > Joshuas parents were Joshua Brown 1717-1798 and his Mother was Hannah > Gatchell > > Joshua srs parents were Jeremiaha Brown 1692-1797 and Mary Cole > > Jeremiahas father was James Brown. 1. Re: [PAHUNTIN] Joshua Brown, Charlotte Morris, Maddensville,

    3. To all who are hunting Joshua Brown & Charlotte Morris: I receive my copy of the original land warrant from Bedford County Oct 31, 1785. It is a little different from the one you get from the state archives. The good thing about the one from Blair county, is the fact that they list Daniel, Joshua & James Brown together as one. It is listed exactly like this: "Dan'l, Joshua & James Brown". I feel comfortable about assuming that they are either brothers or at least very ,very close cousins.......but I would tend to believe brothers because they bought land near each other and at the same time. So, now we need to find a Brown family that had children Daniel, James & Joshua Another item is, I have had quite a few researchers mention that the bible record says Joshua Brown was born in Cumberland, MD. I have a copy someone sent me of the bible page from the bible, and a copy of the typewritten copy, both, and I don't see anywhere on either of them where it says where he was born...the Cumberland, MD part. I am afraid someone wrote that on it later....possibly?. However, I do think we are going to find that is indeed where he was from, but I don't see it on the bible page, where we could use that for proof. Does anyone know differently for sure? This certainly is one of the hardest families I have worked, as far as digging up tidbits and putting them together like a puzzle. I was also told the William Brown b.ca 1765 in Md, that was in Huntingdon Co, PA at the same time as our Joshua Brown, was also born in Cumberland, MD. And William named one of his sons Joshua. In fact, his children have many of the same names that our Joshua named his children. So, I am adding him to the list of possible siblings to Joshua to look for, plus the fact that William Brown married Ruth Lane, the niece of my Ruth Lane that married Vincent Steven. 3 of Vincents grandchildren married Joshua Brown's grandchildren. Seems too coincidental. Thanks, Kathy Wells. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nancy Thompson" <redheadnt@msn.com> To: <PAHUNTIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, April 11, 2003 10:37 PM Subject: [PAHUNTIN] Joshua Brown, Charlotte Morris, Maddensville, > Gary: > > Joshua and Charlotte Brown are my 4G Grandparents. 3. All three names are all a part or place in Shirley Township located south of Mount Union Union Township to the west, Cromwell Twp to the south and Tell Township to the east and the Juniata River to the north. Shirley Election District, beleive it would include Shirleysburg and nearby areas, Allenport has its own election district along with the Shirley Township consolidated grade school (1-8. Shirleysburg is located about 7 miles south of Mt Union on Route 522. The borough is small but was established in the late 1700's. Hope this helps. 3. Betty, I've watched the Huntingdon geneology group for a long time and never heard anyone talk about my family, the Bushes. The names you mention sound familiar although I don't know if there were any born in Bedford County. Augustus Bush (I think spelled on his tombstone as BUSCH) was my great grandfather. He lived in Huntingdon Co. He had several sons including, Valentine, John W. (my grandfather), Silas, WILLIAM, Christ (or Christopher). I don't know where Juniata Twp is in Hunt. Co. but my great grandfather, August, lived near the Raystown River, I think. If any of this sounds familiar, I hope it helps. Also, I would really like to hear from you with any info you have re: the Bush family. I have some more info available. There is a portion of the Bush family I couldn't find but I may be able to give you some info about them. Hope to hear from you. 3. For what it's worth - I think this also must be Shirley. A lot of these people had German or Irish accents - words don't sound the same with an accent . . . I've seen worse spellings than this - ----- Original Message ----- From: "kemp" <ayeh@pennswoods.net> To: <PAHUNTIN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, April 07, 2003 11:22 AM Subject: Re: [PAHUNTIN] Help on Warrant? > >from Steve Kemp: Shurlock must be the phonetic way the people applying for the > >warrant thought they had heard the name "Shirley." 1. [PAHUNTIN] PIPER, RIPPEY, CRAINE and CARR families ca. 1775-1840
    2. I'm new to the list, and am working with the following families that may have ties to Huntingdon Co.: CARR, PIPER, RIPPEY, CRAINE. They have variously intermarried with my primary FLETCHER line of Bedford Co., PA. This FLETCHER line is local-specific to the descendancy of Jacob Fletcher (1743-1831, d. Bedford Co.), via his son Jacob (1771-ca. 1853? d. Bedford, PA?). For CARR: I'm trying to find parentage for a William K. CARR, b. ca. 1821, possibly in Huntingdon Co. He married Mary Rippey FLETCHER, daughter of William Fletcher and Elizabeth Rippey of Bedford, PA. The marriage was held in Ebensburg, Cambria Co., in 1859, at the home of a William K. PIPER. An uncle of Mary Fletcher, John PIPER (1799-1870), lived in Gaysport, Blair Co., at the time. John PIPER had married Julia Ann Fletcher, sister of the above William, in 1819. After the death of Julia Ann in 1837, John PIPER may have moved into what was then Blair Twp., Huntingdon Co. (was this portion incorporated into the newly formed Blair Co.?), as suggested by the 1840 census. PIPER: this line is believed to have centered in the Cumberland Co./ Shippensburg area, with lines spreading to Huntingdon Co., and Bedford Co. The "Fort Piper" Pipers of Hopewell Twp., Bedford Co., are believed to be extended family of the John Piper mentioned above. Likewise, Elizabeth RIPPEY, wife of William Fletcher, was a daughter of John Rippey and Mary PIPER of Shippensburg. It's possible that the same Hopewell Twp. group was related to Elizabeth as well as John. Both Elizabeth RIPPEY and John PIPER are known to have been born in Shippensburg. Other lines with Huntingdon links: BLODGET, and CRAINE. John Adams BLODGET, son of Rebecca SMITH and Samuel BLODGET, Jr., married Anna/Nancy FLETCHER, daughter of Jacob FLETCHER mentioned above. William SMITH, D.D., father of Rebecca SMITH BLODGET, was a founder of the University of PA in Philadelphia, and also helped found Huntingdon Co. Eliza BLODGET, daughter of John A. BLODGET and Nancy FLETCHER, married Alfred A. CRAINE, son of Abraham and Jane CRAINE of Bedford Borough, Bedford Co. Data suggests that the CRAINE family came to Bedford from Huntingdon around 1840. I know this has run longer than the usual query, but I think it may help other researchers with specific interests in these surnames in the Huntingdon/Cumberland/Bedford/Blair area. All alliances with my FLETCHER line occurred in Bedford between 1819 and 1860. I'm happy to share what I know and compare notes with anyone who can shed some light on the possible Huntingdon, etc., links with these families. David Fletcher Richmond, VA
