I have a Hughes family in Fairfield Co, OH, in the 1860s. Jesse Hughes (1787-1864) m. Mary Hardesty (1790-1844) and then Sarah ???. I mention this because several of the related families came from Huntingdon/Blair Co, PA, but I have not been able to find Jesse's parents. I do not know where he was born, but am hoping you might have run across him in your research. Margie R. Hi! Steve if you can mail me a copy of the sheet with Piper and Kemp i will surely mail you postage and copy fees if not a million, HA! HA!. Rose Marie
>From Steve Kemp... I think I have seen a group sheet of that Kemp family with the Piper in it. They're not related to me and neither is the Hercules Kemp/ Camp family in the southern part of Huntingdon County.
If there is someone out there related to this Hercules Camp - I would be interested in exchanging information as my William Lockard family had dealings with them in Bedford County. Hi Does anyone have any info on a Rebecca BATEMAN AGE 53 who is listed in the 1860 Franklin Twp. Huntingdon Co. Census living with J. D. HUGHS & family? I could find no listing on her in 1870. I am wondering if she is related to my Hughes line of Huntingdon, Centre & Blair Co.'s. Thanks! Jean Corio Tampa, Fl
Somebody this week had sent info on the Latta family to me and asked that it be submitted to the county web site. I don't recall many particulars but I do recall that the person asked that the info be added to pioneers of the county. For whatever reason, the note has vanished. Could whoever sent it please resend it? I'm sorry, but I don't have a clue who sent it or if they were even subscribed to the list. Thanks -- Ken Boonie Co-Coordinator, PaGenWeb Project Huntingdon County http://www.rootsweb.com/~pahuntin/ Psalm 33:12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.
I want to thank Linda and Steve for their help.. It gives me something to pursue. Warren

I also am looking for the Geissinger and Davis connections mentioned below: The first member of this branch of the DAVIS family of whom there was a record is William DAVIS, born in Blair Co., PA. He was left an orphan at an early age and was brought to Penn Twp., Huntingdon Co., by his paternal aunt, Mrs. Jane GEISSINGER, who made the journey across the mountains on horseback to bring the child to her own home. He grew up at the GEISSINGER farm and at a suitable age learned the carpenter's trade, becoming an expert mechanic. After his marriage he located at Marklesburg, where he worked at his trade, later becoming a contractor, mamy buildings in that locality yet standing as mute witnesses of his industry and skill. After several years as a successful builder, his health failed, compelling a change of occupation. He purchased a farm in the neighborhood, spending the years 1870 to 1875 thereon, then retired to a home in Huntingdon, where he died in 1876. He was a Democrat in politics, and both he and his wife were members of the Lutheran Church. from Steve Kemp. If he bought land after the formation of the county in Sept. 1787 and recorded the deed, you could find it there. If he sold land, same thing. All of the tax records exist year by year. If he was taxed for land, even if he did not record a deed or even own it outright, the record will exist. You have to know the township where the land was, and the records are not at the courthouse any longer, but at the Huntingdon County Historical Society. Orphans Court has indexes to all dockets by names including names of minor children when the entry is an action taken for them. However it is extremely rare for any woman to have either a will or a record in Orphans Court in those years because women generally owned no property except personal items. Orphans Court took care of only financial interests of heirs who were minors. >RE: My ggg-grandfather lived in Huntingdon Co. during the 1800 Census. Don't forget about the Huntingdon County Tax Lists available at the Huntingdon Historical Society. The Historical Society will also do research for you for a fee.
