I tried to pick up the article in the York Sunday News concerning the vandalism at Riverview Cemetery in Huntingdon, Pa, but I had no success. I have family buried there and I live out of town so it is not possible for me to check there graves. Would someone be kind and forward the article to me? Many Thanks, Joan Kaylor Stahlhut

My first posting to the Huntington area on rootsweb. Does anyone on the list know of any information about a KESSLER SHAW from that area? I know he is deceased since the last 3 - 4 years but I have no other information to give in order to narrow down the possibilities. Any help would be appreciated. I am researching that family line. THANK YOU for your thoughtful help. Larry
Steve, Thank you for the info. JKS
Reply to query "Do you know if Huntingdon, Pa. was ever named Frankstown? If it was when was the name changed?" from Joan Kaylor Stahlhut Frankstown Township was successively in Bedford, Huntingdon and (now) Blair Counties. It is about 25 miles west of the town of Huntingdon. Hollidaysburg Borough is associated with the former village name "Frankstown" from the first dates of settlement, 1760-70 I would guess without actually looking it up. William Smith gave the frontier location of Standing Stone the name "Huntingdon" when he drew up a plat for lots on the tract. Despite his wish to give the spot a bucolic English-village name, people referred to Huntingdon as Standing Stone Settlement for probably 25 or more years afterwards... Roughly speaking, in the frontier era Standing Stone equals Huntingdon, Frankstown equals Hollidaysburg, and Raystown equals Bedford. There was also a Huntingdon in York County (now Adams County) from ca 1750 and it has been confused with "our" Huntingdon by readers of some very early accounts. Steve Kemp, Huntingdon
