Hi Marybeth, My GGgrandfather was also a Patrick Kelly, but he had shortened his name from Kilkelly when he entered the army at the start of the Civil War. He was also born in Galway, but we think that he was born in 1832 and that he was the son of Bryan Kilkelly. I believe that all of his descendents used the Kelly name, though there is one Patrick Kilkelly that I've heard of, who may be a son or nephew. I offer this information because you may run across "my" Patrick in Huntingdon or Blair counties. Also, many of my other ancestors in this line, hailed from Warriors Mark, but they were the Westons and a lot of Germans. Patrick's wife, Ann Nightwine, is buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Newry, Blair county, PA. I have not looked there for Patrick's grave, though it might also be there. Hello Listers: I have recently located my 2nd great-grandmother in the Warriors Mark Twp. 1860 census. She is listed with her second husband, Richard HALL, and four children, two of whom were to her first husband, Patrick KELLY. Patrick KELLY, b. 1818 Co. Galway, Ireland, emigrated in 1841, arriving at the port of New York. He made his Decl. of Intent, Aug 1844, Centre Co., PA, and was naturalized one year later, Aug 1845, Centre Co., PA. Patrick and Mary Ann DOLAN, b. 1825, Co. Galway Ireland were married in the US, as Mary Ann came to America unmarried with two brothers, Martin and Thomas. This couple had two children, Patrick/Patsy, b. 1852, PA (county UNKNOWN), and my greatgrandmother, Mary Anna, b. 1854, PA (county UNKNOWN). Sometime after the birth of Mary Anna KELLY, 1854, Patrick KELLY, her father died. Mary Ann nee DOLAN KELLY married Richard HALL, ca. 1854-56, PA, as this couple's first born child was baptized Aug, 1857, St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Tyrone Twp., Blair Co. PA. Would like to determine: 1.) date/place of death and burial for my 2nd Gr-grf, Patrick KELLY. 2.) date/place of birth/baptism for his children, Patsy and Mary Anna. 3.) date/place of marriage for Mary Ann nee DOLAN KELLY and Richard HALL. Thanks so much for your time, and any help or suggestions will be most appreciated. Marybeth Corrigall ACMBJC@aol.com
Descendants of Emanuel Hermanus CLAPPER II - 19 AUG 2003 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- First Generation 1. Emanuel Hermanus CLAPPER II1 was born about 1750 in Clappertown, now Barbara, Huston Twp., Blair Co., PA. The birth place may have been Germany and is being investigated. He died between 1811 and 1815 in Huntingdon, Huntingdon Co., PA.2 He was also known as Herman, Harman or Manus.2 The spelling of Herman may appear as Harmon, Manus, and in an Article of Agreement found in Huntingdon Co. courthouse his name is spelled in the latin form of Hermanus. Herman CLAPPER, married Catherine ???? while living in Washington Co. MD From the Washington Co. deeds I found in Book B, 419, dated Nov. 28, 1780 that Harman CLAPPER, Washinton Co., farmer, and wife, Catherine sold to Rev. George YOUNG of Elizabethtown, for 425 pounds, all that tract on which Harman CLAPPER now lives, known as "Nazareth", formerly the property of Joseph WOLLAMOTT, deceased, 100 acres. This must have been when Herman and his wife, Catherine sold out and moved to PA. In the U.S. census of 1790 Harmon CLAPPER is listed in Huntingdon Co. PA as having 1 male under 16, and 2 females. In an Article of agreement, Will Book 1, Vol. M, Page 131, dated Ced 26, 1803, Hermanus and Catherine CLAPPER mention the following children; 1. Mary, who died June 28, 1791, married Anthony BEAVER, his first marriage, 2. Susanna (died Sep. 24 1849, married Anthony BEAVER, his second marriage 3. Daniel, who married Catherine LOWER; 4. Henry; 5. John; 6. Jacob, who married Lucinda ???; 7 George, who married first a MOYER, and his second marriage was to Matilda FOUSE; and 8. Catherine, who married Frederick HERRING. In the Article of Agreement Herman states that his land on Piney Creek, now in Blair Co. PA, was conveyed to him by John BRUMBAUGHM containing 110 acres and 18 perches. Letters of Administration were granted to Ludwig CLAPPER, his brother, and Jacob BRUMBAUGH on the Herman Clapper estate on Jan. 23, 1804, so Herman must have died between Dec. 26, 1803 and Jan. 23, 1804. Mr STEWART in his history gives Herman's name as Emanuel. This is because probably he saw the name written as Manus somewhere and thought it was short name for Emanuel. This was all in one paragraph so that is how I copied it. I find a number of differences between these 2 pages and "the Clappers in America" information. I plan to try to find this article the next time I go to Altoona PA maybe next Spring. My husband and I have been searching various family members of his and mine so have visited a number of PA libraries. We often come home and find something we "missed" in the papers we have copied and wish we could see that "report" or "book" again. Carol Hurley <carrus@cablenet-VA.com> Emanuel Hermanus CLAPPER II and Catherine (WIFE OF CLAPPER, EMANUEL HERMANUS) were married. Emanuel Hermanus CLAPPER II and Catherine (WIFE OF CLAPPER, EMANUEL HERMANUS) had the following children: +2 i. John CLAPPER (born in 1764). +3 ii. Jacob CLAPPER (born in 1767). +4 iii. Catherine CLAPPER (born in 1770). +5 iv. Daniel CLAPPER (born on 9 MAY 1772). +6 v. Susannah CLAPPER (born in APR 1775). +7 vi. Henry Joseph CLAPPER (born in 1776). +8 vii. George CLAPPER (born in 1780). Second Generation 2. John CLAPPER5 (Emanuel Hermanus-1) was born in 1764 in Bedford, Bedford Co., PA. John CLAPPER and Elizabeth (WIFE OF CLAPPER, JOHN) were married. 3. Jacob CLAPPER5 (Emanuel Hermanus-1) was born in 1767 in Woodbury Twp., Huntingdon Co., PA.7 He died in 1811 in Woodbury Twp., Huntingdon Co., PA. Jacob CLAPPER and Elenor BUZZARD were married. Elenor BUZZARD5 was born in 1767. Jacob CLAPPER and Elenor BUZZARD had the following children: +9 i. Elizabeth CLAPPER (born in 1797). +10 ii. George CLAPPER (born about 1799). +11 iii. William Henry CLAPPER (born in 1811). +12 iv. Margaret CLAPPER (born about 1808). +13 v. Susanna CLAPPER (born about 1810). +14 vi. Nancy CLAPPER (born about 1811). +15 vii. Mary CLAPPER. 16 viii. David CLAPPER.5 +17 ix. Emily CLAPPER. 4. Catherine CLAPPER5 (Emanuel Hermanus-1) was born in 1770 in Huntingdon, Huntingdon Co., PA. It is not certain just when Catharine CLAPPER was born and her place of birth - her history is quit sketchy. We do know however that she was the daughter of Hermanus II and Catharine CLAPPER and that she married Frederick HERRING. This is confirmed in Letters of Administration Bk. M-1 p. 431 dated 26 December 1808 in Huntingdon County in which Hermanus names his daughter as intermarried with Frederick HERRING. Like so many daughters of early settlers especially, she beame lost through marriage and her existence became totally forgotten. This was demonstrated by the fact that she was not mentioned in the "Brief History of the CLAPPER Families" 1915. Catharine and Frederick were parties to a number of early deeds in Woodbury and Frankstown Twp. from 1797-1806 in which Frederick signed in German script. They probably moved westward after that. Census 1790 - Frederick "HARRIN" 2-2-2- Huntingdon Co. - Woodbury Twp. Frederick HERRING Sr. was a tax colletor in Huntingdon County b. ca 1730 Europe d. 1792 Woodbury Twp. Huntingdon Co m. Daniel CLAPPER1 (Emanuel Hermanus-1) was born on 9 MAY 1772 in Carson Valley, Blair Co., PA. He died on 18 AUG 1847 in Carson Valley, Blair Co., PA. He was buried in Carson Valley Cem., North of Duncansville, Allegheny Twp., Blair Co., PA.6 Daniel CLAPPER the oldest(?) son of Emanuel was a bound boy for eleven years to one BRUMBAUGH living near Hagerstown, Md. On reaching his majority he came to Piney Creek to the farm known now as the WOLF farm. At this early time the country was a wilderness. The said Mr. BRUMBAUGH formerly owned this farm and during Daniel's bondage he threatened to run away when BRUMBAUGH promised him that if he would stay his time he would give him this farm. In the mean time, BRUMBAUGH sold the farm to Daniel's father, who moved on it. When Daniel was free he came to claim his property when he was told that his father had bought it. Daniel married Catherine LOWER of Williamsburg and settled in Canoe Valley on a farm now owned by Charles ROSS. Daniel CLAPPER with his family of 12 children moved from Canoe Valley to Carson Valley in 1827, where his sons Jacob, George, and Emanuel lived for 70 continuous years and died there and were buried in the Carson Valley Cemetery by the side of their parents. The Carson Valley farm being divided, George, living on the one part and the bachelor brother, Jacob, lived with Emanuel on the other part. Daniel had 69 Grandchildren. His progeny extends the length and breadth of our country even to California. The writer is a great-great grandson of the first Emanuel CLAPPER who landed in Baltimore Harbor in 1765 Daniel CLAPPER and Catherine LOWER were married before 1797. 6 Catherine LOWER2 (daughter of Adam LOWER/LAUBER and Elizabeth KEISER) was born about 1777 in Williamsburg, Blair Co., PA.8 She died on 27 SEP 1853.6 She was buried in Carson Valley Cem., North of Duncansville, Allegheny Twp., Blair Co., PA.6 She was also known as Catharine.6 Daniel CLAPPER and Catherine LOWER had the following children: +18 i. He served in the military in the Revolution as Pvt. 5th Class under Daniel Morgan in the Cumberland Militia of Pa. He was engaged in the battles of Cowpens, Eutaw Springs at Ft. Moultrie and at the surrender of Cornwallis. According to Marie Leighty ENGLE and Gerald H. HELSEL Contributing Assistant, "THE CLAPPERS IN AMERICA", 1980.... The "Beaver Genealogy" by I. M. BEAVER 1939 has some slight discrepancies concerning Anthony BEAVER and his two wives. Anthony BEAVER was married both times to a CLAPPER woman. His first wife was Mary CLAPPER, daughter of Henry I and Christena CLAPPER in 1786. She died in January 1791 and in June 1791 Anthony married Susan CLAPPER, daughter of Hermanus II and Catherine CLAPPER. The father of Anthony BEAVER, Nicholas BEAVER, also married twice. Nicholas was a Pvt. in the German Regiment during the Revolutionary War and according to SAR records he was first married to Katarine WATHKINS in 1757 in Philadelphia. +11 iii. I see that I do have your father listed as a child of John Gallaher. Unfortunately, I can not take an ounce of credit for that informtion as Tom Hollen and Rich G. were the two that shared that info with me. I am happy to give you Tom's email if you would like to contact him or I could send you a copy of the info he originally sent me. (I believe this info was verified by a will.) I am sure you have received Rich's info already. I think John's is as far as anyone has gotten with the Gallaher line. Hope this email helps. Judy :)
