I have been looking at the wonderful maps on the Huntingdon Co page and trying to determine about where my ggg grandfather, Fredrick Roop/Rupe, lived. Living in south Louisiana, I'm a little confused. Is Tatman's Gap the same as Tatman's Run? The Run looks like a creek, while I have found other Gaps, which look like breaks in mountain ranges. In an Orphan Court document, the land description is: "And that the said Intestate died seized in his demesne as of fee, of [???] in a certain tract of lands Situate in Hopewell township, near Tatmans Gap, adjoining lands of James Entrikin Esq. The mountain surveys containing two hundreds and thirty six acres and ten perches, be the same more or less. Thereon erected a two story hewed log house, a good hewed log shop one story high, a weavers shop one story high, a cabin barn, about one hundred & fifteen acres cleared thereon, eight of which is meadow, also an orchard thereon, & praying for an Inquest to make partition or valuation of the same agreeably to the intestate laws of this Commonwealth." Fredrick was taxed in Union Twp, not Hopewell Twp, from 1810-1834. After Fredrick's death, the land was sold to James Entriken. How can I determine where this land was located? If you go into SEARCH and type SAMPUBCO you will come to the site. The site is for the selling of the WILLS to order, they have lists of PA counties to go into and look, some WILLS are one line to print out. You can also look at the Historical Society online they hae a few. Hope this hellps Nan

http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/ancient/anglo_saxons/saxons.shtml <<I heard it was Saxon and if so, does anyone know anything about the Saxon's? Where they came from, beliefs, etc.? Thanks Barb>> Barb, Here's a website with a little information about the Saxons...or Anglo-Saxons. Patti
<<I'm looking for a gentleman with the last name of Shaver who was killed by Indians in the 1700's. Probably between 1750 and 1800. I know that's a long time span but if anyone could shed some light on this then I'd be most grateful.>> Melissa, Shaver's Creek, Shaver's Creek Valley, and Shaver's Creek Manor are mentioned several times in Retrospect Publishing's CD, "Juniata Valley-History" by Jordan. There is one story told in it of a Peter Shaver who had been engaged in trade with the indians for several years and had settled at the mouth of Shaver's Creek believed to be in the spring of 1754. Some years later his body was found without the head, but the cause was not ascertained. Patti
I discovered something else, too. By viewing the microfilms myself I found things that weren't listed at the Sampubco site....intestate information, for instance. Also you could find info about people who were granted letters of administration or turned over administration to someone else. Patti
Actually what you can do with the Sampubco site is check for the counties and names they have listed and then order the microfilm from your local Family History Center. The order numbers they have correspond to the FAmily History Center microfilm numbers. I've only done this with one county (Huntingdon, in fact), but would assume they have a uniform system. The first number of the order number is for the county. The second is for the volume of the original source which is identified on the microfilm and the third number is the page number. It appears to me that they're just trying to get the wills out there (by the fact that they link names to where someone has already done a transcription on the web) and have figured out a system to do it and earn their time doing it. I think it's a great idea, but I just couldn't have afforded to get very many wills that way. Patti
