I am trying to find out which Harnish Family Daniel Harnish born 1820 belongs to. An 1873 map shows him living in Lincoln Twp. with his family. He first married Susann Shultz and after her death married her sister Sarah. They are all buried in the Reformed cemetary in Marklesburg, Huntingdon County. I have a copy of his second wife that states she was a life member of the Lutheran Church. all I know of the family is that Samuel and Martin and a Jacob [beleived to be another brother] Harnish settled in the Lancaster, York area. Years later Samuels sons Christian, Tobias and maybe Peter imagrated to the Huntingdon County area. The 1873 map shows several Harnishs living there. I have also heard that some of them settled in the Canoe Valley and some are buried in Sinking Valley. I am trying to find out who Daniel is decended from. Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Sue
There is a Death Record Book at the Huntingdon County courthouse, Register and Recorder's Office, from memory I think the dates it contains are 1894-1905, the entries are the result of information turned in according to a regulation that was not always followed, I mean, it is clear from looking at the entries that many more deaths transpired than were submitted and recorded. The names of the parents of adults who died, were not recorded, but usually children's parents names are there. Starting in 1906, deaths were recorded at the state level and death certificates were required that at least asked for the parents' names to be entered. (Steve Kemp)

I am trying to prove or disprove our connection to the name Puterbaugh and Buterbaugh. I am coming up with more bits of info that show we maybe really a Puterbaugh one generation back from our proven info on the Bartlebaugh and Purtlebaugh families. This means I am working in the 1750s -1770 or so to find the connection. Hope those Butterbaughs can take it if we find they are cousins. Remember there is a story from Clearfield Butterbaughs that they would shoot anyone that called them a Bartlebaugh. Please contact me if you have anything that could help prove or disprove this or want to help research. Though no sold record but we can probably say that Mathias was son of John Bartlebaugh. Philip Bartlebaugh was probably a brother of John and stayed in Bedford/Blair County after John left to come to Indiana. William from Johnstown Pa area probably was a son of this Philip we found born about 1770-80. No info yet if born in Virginia like John and Mathias Bartlebaugh. Philip's line has a Draper Bartlebaugh. The first name Draper maybe a clue to a connection to the family Draper Puterbaugh . Name Age in1880 Estimated Birth Year Birthplace Relation to head-of-house MaritalStatus Race Gender Home in 1880 (City,County,State) Census Draper PUTERBAUGH 36 <1844> Pennsylvania Self Married White Male Plains, Luzerne, wife Harriet and 7 children listed Would like to know more about William Puterbaugh who moved to Dakota Territory and on 1880 census said he was born in 1895 in Virginia and listed his father was born in Virginia also. This is the Wm Puterbaugh who was in Canada for awhile. I appreciate all info and any help. Elaine Bartlebaugh-Schenk schenk.bartlebaugh@wanadoo.nl

Surnames: Wakefield, Bracken, Keepers Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ZdB.2ACI/3143 Message Board Post: Death of Rev. John Wakefield At Newark, July 14th, 1875, of heart disease, Rev. John Wakefield, aged 86 years. Mr. Wakefield was born in Huntingdon Co., Pa., March 9th, 1789, was converted at 12 years of age, and at seventeen became a class leader in the Methodist church to which he belonged. At twenty years of age he was married to Miss Mary Bracken, who bore him eleven children, seven of whom are now living; although of one or two of the seven no news has been heard since the close of the war. Three years after his marriage, having been already preaching several years, he joined the Baltimore conference as a circuit preacher. Soon after he removed to Pa., and joined the Philadelphia conference, where most of his life was spent. His only other important change before he came West was his transfer with others to join the new Pittsburg conference. In 1829 his wife died, and five years after he was married to Mrs. Mary Keepers, who survives him. He came West in 1855 and settled first near Holderman's Grove, and afterward at Newark. Being nearly seventy years old, and in failing health, he did not join the conference but preached in all directions as a supply and evangelist. A large share of his meetings were held in the Holderman school house. Last winter he spent at Somonauk with his granddaughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Thomson, returning to Newark last spring. His last sickness was very painful, but was endured with christian submission. The last Sabbath of his life he spent nearly the entire day in preaching the gospel to those around him. His rememberance of facts and dates were often dim and confused, but the apprehension of spiritual truth was still clear and decided. His sufferings abated towards the last, and he passed away quietly to his rest above. The Lord he had served three-quarters of a century took his spirit. He was endowed naturally with a fine constitution and powerful voice, and supernaturally with a peculiar presence of the spirit of God which eminently fitted him for a revivalist. He was one of the well-known leaders in camp meetings forty years ago, and was sure to be brought forward if it was known that he was on the ground. During one sermon of his it is said that one hundred and twenty were born again of the Holy Ghost. He remembered the occasion well as one of especial weariness and weakness but of unusuall divine power. None of his children were able to be present at the funeral but Mr. and Mrs. Waterman, of Creston, Iowa. The funeral services were held in the M.E. church, at Newark. The funeral sermon was by Rev. J.R. Allen, his pastor, from the words "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved," and to say it was eloquent would be only belittling mockery unworthy the solemn subject, but it was the eloquence of God's good spirit, and not to the dead but the living. Rev. J.S. David was present, and Rev. J.R. Burns of Somonauk, gave many affecting reminiscenses of the deceased, especially of his interviews with him last winter. Want to thank everyone for the posting of this url. I found out who my Fisher parents were. What a break thru. And thanks for this wonderful site.
I notice you are also researching Roberts. Do you have a will Roberts probably born about 1830 who married Emily Ann Shannon. They had two children. I would be interested to see where this family may have gone.
