    3. From Steve Kemp There are a couple of Gehrett baptisms at what would later be called Cassville Lutheran Church prior to 1827. From 1804 into the mid-1820s there is a good record of baptisms of members recorded in their church book. After that time the church was only irregularly served by pastors; the language of services was changed to English; and one must assume that membership fell off drastically. Cassville records are of little use to genealogists thru the rest of the 19th century (with a few exceptions). I'm not aware whether or not anything has been recorded from any Orbisonia churches from the 19th century. They do have a historical society in town. >RE: > >James Wilson Gehrett b. 1. Re: Blacklog and Shade Valleys
    2. kemp
    3. from Steve Kemp RE: search for Harriet McGarvey You can narrow the search by a process of elimination. Specifically... She cannot fit into the family of David and Sara (Adams) McGarvey Baptisms at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Shade Valley, for their children include Samuel Adams McGarvey, born June 20, 1853; Sara Joanna McGarvey, born May 7, 1855; and Amanda Margaret McGarvey, born May 26, 1857. Other McGarvey couples with children baptized in the same church thru the same years are Thomas and Mary; and William and Eleanor. The records are indexed and no child named Harriet appears. Huntingdon Co. Historical Society's library has a McGarvey family file. In it is a typescript (9 pp.) dated 1959, which lists the descendants of Henry McGarvey (1775-1838) who lived in Shirley Township. It appears that all of the McGarvey names posted here from respondents who looked up Hunt. Co. census can be placed in his extended family by using this record... again, no Harriet appears. Perhaps the same person who did not know Harriet's parents' names also was mistaken about her place of birth.
