Retired: Benjamin Franklin Garver was born in Shirley Township, May 30, 1857, a son of George and Anna Garver, of German descent; both are deceased. Benjamin Garver was born and raised on a farm, and his early schooling was obtained in Germany Valley. For fifty-six years he was a tiller of the soil; he understood every phase of the business. He is now retired. He formerly was an assessor in Shirley Township, Huntingdon Co., and at various times has served on the election board. He is a Republican; belongs to the Brethren Church. He is a director of the First National Bank of Orbisonia, Pa. He has two sisters, Mrs. O.M. Brumbaugh, Huntingdon, Pa., and Mrs. L.J. Rupert, Huntingdon, Pa. One brother, Lloyd Garver, Mt. Union, Pa. Benjamin Franklin Garver was married to Emma F. Garver; she is deceased, died in 1900. In 1908 he re-married to Jennie Ryder, and to this union were born Arlene, Mable and Helen, all at home. Anna, a daughter , is deceased. Mr. Garver ahs be! en all his life an industrious man. His worthy character, honorable dealings and genial manner have gained for him the respect and liking of his acquaintances. To-day he enjoys the fruits of a well spent life.

Attended Juniata College, 1898 and 1899. Academic course. A son of Miles L. Greene, retired; owned a farm of 152 acres in Miller Township. His mother was Mary (Ash) Greene, who died in 1891 at the age of thirty-nine years. Robert Greene taught school for two years in MIller Township. He had a hotel at Petersburg for four years; followed restaurant business at Huntingdon, Pa., at Brunswick Hotel, for four years; last two years a farmer. On July 15, 1929, bought restaurant near Silk Mill, Huntingdon, Pa. He has been a tax collector in Miller Township. A Methodist; wife also, at Manor Hill, Huntingdon County, Pa. During the World War was in the hotel business at Petersubrg, Pa. He has two brothers, Harvey H., Brunswick Hotel, restaurant business, Huntingdon, Pa.; Charles, Oswego, Oregon, a carpen! ter and cement finisher. Two sisters: Anne, marrried to C.A. Brumbaugh, Denver, Colorado; Mary, married to Herbert Blair, a famer, MIller Township. Robert Greene was married to Fannie Randolph, a daughter of John and Jane Randolph, farmers, Jackson Township. The ladies at the courthouse are very helpful. I sent a US postal letter to them, because at the time they said they didn't use email, with names and dates for several of my direct line. Although they didn't have wills for them, they had letters of administration and other documents that had been filed which they sent to me which were extremely helpful. I would sugest you contact them using the site which Judy has provided (probably call) and they will tell you how they can best help you. Lana

Paul I. Gill Spruce Creek, Pa. Paul I. Gill was born at Huntingdon Furnace, October 2, 1897, and at the same place received his early schooling. A son of Thomas I. and Margaret (Sankey) Gill; both are living. Thomas Gill is the caretaker of the Sunday School Camp. Paul I. Gill attended Juniata College. For five years was a machinist with the Penna. R.R. and for two years was with the Goodyear Rubber Co., of Akron, Ohio. He served in the World War, in the Fifty-eighty Ammunition Train, Fort Adams, Rhode Island. Enlisted at Altoona, Pa.; to Harrisburg, Pa.; to Columbus, Ohio; to Fort Carney, Rhode Island. Discharged at Fort Adams, Rhode Island, March 25, 1919. Both he and his wife belong to the Presbyterian Church, Spruce Creek, Pa.. A Republican in politics; belongs to A.A.A. Has three brothers: Edwin, Altoona, Pa., with Penna. R.R.; Albert assists the subject of this sketch, an electrician; George, at home. Paul I. GIll was married to Alta Graffius, a daughter of Blair and Jennie Graffius. Th! ey have two sons, Robert, eight years of age, at school; Kenneth, two years of age. Two daughters: Margaret, nine years; Elizabeth, three and one-half years. The Gills do all kinds of repairing in quick order. Represent the Graham Brothers, Graham-Paige and trucks; also a road service truck fully equipped. Mrs. Thomas I. Gill looks after the confectionery, soft drinks, ice cream, etc., and a substantial business is conducted. The Gills are expert mechanics, haiving had considerable experience in all kinds of automobiles and truck repairing, guaranteeing first class workmanship.
Charles Mitten Goodman Mill Creek, Pa. Merchant: Charles Mitten Goodman is a son of Dr. B.F. Goodman, D.V.S., deceased, who was born February 15, 1842, in Henderson Township, Huntingdon Co., Pa. His parents were Samuel B. and Eliza (Laird) Goodman. Dr. B.F. Goodman was a veterinary surgeon. Charles Mitten Goodman's mother's name prior to her marriage was Louisa Hawn, residing at Mill Creek, Pa. Charles Goodman's education was derived at Mill Creek and Tyrone. Later on in life he entered the general merchandise business and is still engaged in the same. This location has stood for many years. In 1914 he was appointed Postmaster of the office he still holds, giving good service. He has served on the Borough Council and the Election Board; also on the Church Council of the Lutheran Church, and is a Sunday School teacher. Belongs to I.O.O.F., No. 117, Huntingdon, Pa. Adheres to the principles of the Democratic party. Two brothers living, Rollo H., at home, and Chester C., Juniata Co., Pa. Samuel A. and on! e sister, Mrs. Minnie Souders, are deceased. Mr. Goodman was married to M.M. Carothers, of Mill Creek, Pa. He carries a general line of merchandise of all descriptions and enjoys a large patronage. He is a well known business man, through having been established at Mill Creek many years.
Miss Olive Grissinger Mount Union, Pa. Public School Nurse: Women have played an important part in shaping the destinies of this county. And one who has had a part in this endeavor in peace and war is Miss Olive Grissinger. Her's is a mission of mercy. She was born on a farm at Hubbelsville, Huntingdon CoOunty, Pa., and at Oak Grove School she first became acquainted with the value of an education. A daughter of William Pym Grissinger and Harriet (Stevens) Grissinger. The father died in April, 1927, at Mount Union, Pa., aged seventy-nine years. The mother is still living, of Scotch-Irish parentage. Miss Olive Grissinger in order to advance her education, attended the Rock Hill Normal School, and later taught for one year at Centre Grove, Huntingdon County, Pa. Prior to the world war Miss Grissinger was engaged in private nursing at the Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia, Pa. Here was formed a Pennsylvania Hospital Unit, No. 10. Embarked on steamer (St. Paul) as a body including seventy-five nurses, tw! enty-five doctors, one hundred and fifty attendants, the head of the unit being Colonel Hart and Colonel Delaney, Commander; on May 15, 1917. This band of noble women volunteered their services on their arrival, joined a British unit, served twenty-three months, stationed at La Treport, France. Was discharged April 15, 1919, at New York. They offered their lives in that mighty conflict. Miss Grissinger at present is School Nurse; commenced in 1922. Prior to that time was engaged in public health work, 1920 to 1922. A member of the American Legion, No. 107. Has three brothers, David H., Chicago, Ill.; J. Scott, Chicago, Ill., and Harry S., Joliet, Ill. One sister, Alice, married to Amon Curfman, Millerstown, Pa. She belongs to the Epworth League, Young Women's Missionary Society. Belongs to the Methodist church, a Director of Religious Education. At present a Sunday School teeacher. A life thus spent is a life of devotion to humanity, whether it be on battlefiel! d or in the peaceful pursuits of life.
Thomas B. Gilliland Marklesburg, Pa. Merchant: A son of Luther and Anna (Scott) Gilliland. The daughter of George and Elizabeth Scott, of Charter Oak, Huntingdon County, Pa. The father died in 1917, aged sixty-two years. The mother died in 1924, aged sixty-six years. They lived at Neff's Mills. Thomas B. Gilliland was born at Altoona, Pa., February 5, 1888, and at Manor Hill he began his first schooling; later on attended the schools of McAlevy's Fort, for one term; also took a course in dairying at State College, Centre County, Pa. Accepted position at ice cream plant at Tyrone, Pa.; was there for four years, and then to Bedford, Pa., at milk plant, and at Harrisburg, Pa., for two months. He then accepted a position at the State Capitol Building, Harrisburg, Pa., Department of Forestry and Water. Both he and his wife are members of the Methodist Chruch. Was inspector on election board for two terms, and clerk for one term. During the World War, enlisted at Huntingdon, Pa.; sent to Camp Lee, July 23,! 1918; there for five months; then to Camp Hill, Newport News, Va.; in Veterinary Corps; discharged May 21, 1919. Mr. Gilliland is a member of the L.O.O.M., No. 25, Tyrone; P.O.S. of A. Camp, No. 769, Marklesburg, Pa., and Lincoln Grange, Lincoln Township, Huntingdon County, Pa. Is a Democrat. He has two brothers: Joseph H., married to Edna Blanche Moffett, Pennsylvania Furnace, Huntingdon County, Pa.; Oscar, married to Nannie Baumgardner, Franklinville, Huntingdon County, Pa. One sister, Ada G., Harrisburg, Pa. One sister, Carrie, died in 1929, aged fifty years. Thomas B. Gilliland was married to Bertha Houser, of Petersburg, Pa., a daughter of Frank and Mary Houser; the father is retired. Mr. Gilliland conducts a meat and provision business and has built up a large business.

Tyrone became part of Blair County in 1846, I believe. I know other parts of Huntingdon County became part of Blair county then. I just got to Huntingdon tonight to do research. I'm planning on going to Juniata College tomorrow. They have an extensive collection of newspapers and I know they have the Huntingdon Globe though I don't know what years. I'll check while I'm there tomorrow and make a copy if they have it.
