Notes for WILLIAM ENYEART: In the upper part of Juanita Township, and partly in Penn, William Enyeart began his improvements about 1770. During the Revolution he sought protection in the fort at Standing Stone, and when no Indians were supposed to be about tilled his farm in company with a neighbor by the name of Reed, who improved an adjoining tract of land, one standing guard while the other worked. They several times escaped barely with their lives, on one occasion Enyeart jumping down the bank of the river and running to the fort near Marklesburg, thus avoiding the savages, who waited to waylay him should he try to return to Huntingdon. William Enyeart was several times married, having five children by the first wife and sixteen by the second. Of these, John moved to Indiana, William lived near Marklesburg, David in shirley, Polly married Isaac Vandevender, and Betsey, Joseph Norris. By the second wife there were sons, Silas, James Joseph, thomas, Benjamin, Levi, and Abraham, all of whom removed to the West, and daughters, who married Peter Heffner, William Wilson, John Heffner, John McMonegal, William Watson, David Corbin, an --- Graffius. Taken from the 1883 History of Huntingdon and Blair Counties, Pennsylvania by J. Simpson Africa ..... page 302 According to the same book as above and on page 494, William Enyeart, of Raystown Branch, died on September 2, 1828. His tombstone in the Reformed Cemetery shows the same date of death. Also on his tombstone, it has he served in the Revolutionary War as a 2nd Lieut. with 4th Co., 3rd Bat., Bedford Co. William Enyeart was a part time blacksmith by trade. All the nails, spikes and other hardware used in the construction of his home were made by him. It was a large stone house, two-and-a-half stories high and contained ten rooms. Folding doors permitted all the rooms on each floor to be converted into one room if desired. The house was built on the side of the mountain so that the second story on the rear was level with the ground. The homestead was situated 8 miles south-east of Huntingdon, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, on the Raystown Branch of the Little Juanita River. The entire area around William's old farm has been completely cleared to make way for the Raystown Dam. In early political life of Huntingdon County, William Enyeart was a very prominent figure. He was influential in making many of the group decisions that were required. He held the office of auditor in a large district and he was also given a commission by governor Thomas Mifflin to become the coroner of Huntingdon County (filed in record book B-1, page 45). William Enyeart will: Recorded in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania in will book # 3 on pages 261, 252 & 263. In the name of God, Amen. And should my wife not wish to take all the personal property, the residue to be sold also and any over-plus arising out of the money due me and such of my personal property (if any sold) as may be sold after my funeral expenses and all my just debts are satisfied to be divided among my children viz: John, William, Elizabeth intermarried with Joseph Norris, Mary intermarried with Isaac Vandevander, David, James, silas, Joseph, Thomas, Catherine intermarried with Peter Heifner, Benjamin, Jane intermarried with William Wilson, Rachel intermarried with John heifner, Sarah intermarried with William Masden, Ann intermarried with David Corbin, Martha intermarried with John McMonagel, Rebecca intermarried with Adam Heifner, Eloner, Margaret and Abraham in the manner hereinafter described that to say. It is my will that my wife shall have one third of all my personal estate intire for her own use and is to have the rents, dues and profits of all my real estate until my youngest child then alive arrives at the age of twenty one years. She to board clothe and school Elenor, Margaret and Abraham so as to make them common English scholars; then I allow my real estate all to be sold by my executor hereinafter named giving unto him all power to sell convey and do every thing necessary for the benefit of my estate. The one third of the purchase money to be in hand and left in the hands of the purchaser or purchasers on interest for the use of my wife during her natural life and when the real estate is sold my wife is to pay over to my executor for the use of my children so much of the proceeds of my personal estate as she may have taken over and above her one third. And it is my will that all the money arising out of my estate as well such of the personal property as my wife may not think proper to take.
