from Steve Kemp, Huntingdon > RE:>I have an Abraham Sells b. Oct. 28, 1752 Mt. Joy, PA married Mary Wilson b. Aug. 14, 1754 Barree , PA. They married ca. 1755 Huntingdon, Co. PA. >Anyone know anything about the Wilson family of Barree, PA? Any help greatly >appreciated. Sell or Sells is (was) a well-known name in the town of Huntingdon, earlier called Standing Stone. Ludwig Sells was licensed to keep a public-house here, in 1781. The dates you have referencing Barree and Huntingdon, though, are anachronisms. Neither place existed at those dates. Huntingdon County was not created until 1787. From 1771-87 the territory was in Bedford County. Prior to that it was in Cumberland County. Barree Township was erected in 1767 and extended out to the edge of settlement, and in area was as large or larger than present-day counties. In the 1750s there were only a handful of "white" settlers in the area. Over the next 20 years, they sometimes evacuated to the east and returned as the danger from Indian raids ebbed and flowed.. Hugh Crawford made out a deed for the land where the town of Huntingdon now sits, in 1760, conveying it to George Croghan, who also obtained an official patent from the provincial authorities for the land. He sold it to Rev. William Smith in 1766. You might check the tax assessment lists for Barree Township starting in 1767 for these surnames.
Hello once again fellow listers: Am searching for the gravesites of Jacob and Susan RIPPLE. I'm not sure of their date of death, but I was not able to find them on the 1880 Census at Heritage Quest. Jacob and Susan were found residing in the Shirley Twp. area of Huntingdon Co., PA. during the 1860 and 1870 Census. Jacob's birthyear figures to be 1815 and Susan's [aka Susannah] birthyear figures to be 1819. Here is also a list of their children as per the censuses: Henry (b.1838); George (b.1839); Mary (b.1841); Catharine (b.1843); Barbara (b.1845); Hannah (b.1848); Harriet (b.1851); Abram [Abraham] (b.1853); John (b.1855); and Miles Elliott (b.1857) Jacob and Susan's daughter, Harriet had a son, John William RECK (b.1872) and later died in September 1880 at the age of 30 years of typhoid fever - as per the 1880 Mortality Census. Anyone have any info on this family???? Donna Heller Zinn of Newville, Cumberland Co., PA.
Hello Fellow Listers: What newspaper would cover a car accident and subsequent death notice/obituary resulting from injuries in that car accident which happened on the bridge at Mount Union in 1937? I'm trying to find out the complete date of death for John William RECK. THANKS! Donna Heller Zinn of Newville, Cumberland Co., PA.
You might try checking with the Huntingdon Historical Society and/or Juniata College, which has many on microfilm. -----Original Message----- From: Donna Heller Zinn [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, August 17, 2006 11:52 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [PAHUNTIN] John William RECK Hello Fellow Listers: What newspaper would cover a car accident and subsequent death notice/obituary resulting from injuries in that car accident which happened on the bridge at Mount Union in 1937? Kelly in my family tree but there were some unidentified females that were daughters of my ggg grandfather Thomas.
Hello, Thank you for respomding. I have never heard of this book. Would I be able to access it at Myfamily.com or is it something I would have to purchase? The only information I have about this John Thompson is from a newspaper article regarding my ggrandmother, Harriet McGurvey/McGervey/McGarvey/M'Gervey/etc. She was a twin and this article tells of her search for her long lost twin sister who it says was taken by a John Thompson when the twins were 3 years old, which would be 1857. Harriet's obituary says she was born Jan. 1 1854 in Black Log, Huntingdon and the article says the family was living in Huntingdon when the sisters were separated. The article says John Thompson soon moved west to possibly Iowa. I assume he would have been married but the only thing I know for sure is that this John Thompson would have a girl in his family who was born in 1854. The article says her name was probably Juniata or Susquehanna, although I'm sure it is possible that he changed her name. I would dearly love to 'reunite' these two long lost sisters even though it is so many years later. Right now I am just trying to find a John Thompson with a daughter of the right age. Thanks for any kind of help, Elizabeth ================================================ --- "Carolyn K. Have you checked the 'Journals of Josiah VanKirk Thompson'? Mr Thompson was a wealthy man from Uniontown, PA, who traveled all over the US working on his genealogy from c1897 to 1931, interviewing relatives and copying records in courthouses and cemeteries. The originals are in the Carnegie Library Pittburgh, but Charlee Wilson transcribed all 27 volumes and made them available on MyFamily.com. If you have more information, such as the name of his wife, I will do a search on what I have copied, but the volumes run 500-600 pages, so next to impossible to just search for a John Thompson. ----- Original Message ----- From: "ewintr" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, August 13, 2006 3:48 PM Subject: [PAHUNTIN] John Thompson abt 1852 > Hello, > > I would like to connect with anyone who knows of a > John Thompson who supposedly was around Huntingdon Co > about 1852, then moved west, maybe to Iowa. > > Elizabeth > > __________________________________________________ > Do You Yahoo!? > Tired of spam?
