I am researching Flowers families in that county ca. 1800 and have found court records for the Flowerses that involve William Gapen as mortgagee of property claimed by Thomas Flowers. The property that was mortgaged was evidently disputed and was surveyed and warranted to Stephen Gapen. Any help would be appreciated. Gapens had FPOC (Free People Of Color) living in their households in at least one early census. In 1820 there is a Samuel Gapen FPOC as head of household. We have been searching for information on these FPOC. Might your know something about them? Thank you.
