If I have a chance to get to the PA Historical Society I'll try to check out the PA Gazette--sounds like the 18th century version of People Magazine. Hugh, do you know what Phillip's occupation was? Were the other Arndorffs on the ship related to Phillip in some way (nephews, perhaps?). I haven't been successful in finding early Orndorff history in Greene County, and it is because you are suggesting they were in VA and eastern PA. Certainly helps to know where to look for people! There seem to be a number of Orndorff families in central PA and Frederick, MD. Do you know if they were related, and was that a stop over point for the family to head west? William Orndorff is my husband's 3rd great grandfather, my husband is descended thorugh William's daughter Cassandra Orndoff Gooden (m. to David Gooden, who also spelled the name differently over time). We were in Greene County over Memorial Day, and a relative took us past the Orndorff farm on Smith Creek--a beautiful place that has the family name on the barn. Hugh, what part of the world do you live in? We're now in eastern PA. I have heard that there are some Orndoff family histories available. Can you recommend any?
