Several years ago I was sent an excerpt of a transcription of Reverend George Loar's notes on the marriage of Hannah Courtwright and Philip Wood. In his notes he states that Hannah Courtwright was half Cherokee and that her father was John Courtwright. He went on to state the correct spelling of John's last name. James F. Courtwright did (to the best of my knowledge) have a brother named John who did have a daughter named Hannah about the same age or a little younger that James' daughter Hannah. John moved his family to WV where he died in 1851. As I have found no evidence of them in WV after John's death it is conceivable that John Courtwright's family or some portion thereof returned to Greene County and that Hannah (Courtwright) Wood was John's daughter not James'. The 1860 census for Aleppo Township, Greene County shows a Nancy Courtwright age 12 living with Sabrina McCracken. This could be John's youngest daughter.
