From around Fort Jackson alone more than 200 persons departed for Bracken County in 1789."(KY) pg 13-Tenmile Country and its Pioneer Families. Times were hard and game was scare so the time had come .to move westward. Most of the same families from Tenmile moved on to KY or OH between 1785-1789. My family travelled down the Ohio River on flatboats til they hit the Wabash River and went up to Illinois as told to me by my grandmother. One time they stopped and stayed in caves along the river in the winter and to hide from the Indians. But many stopped in Kentucky along the way.
