She was born Aug. 4, 1936, in Waynesburg, a daughter of the late William Wesley and Florence Bayard Hathaway. Mrs. Buckingham was a 1954 graduate of Jefferson High School. She was a member and ordained elder at Hewitt Presbyterian Church in Rices Landing for many years. She was a secretary for 36 years for the Hewitt and Jefferson Presbyterian churches, and also an organist for Washington Street Methodist Church in Waynesburg for 22 years. Mrs. Burkingham lived in Rices Landing her entire life. She was borough secretary and had served on the election board for many years. Mrs. Buckingham also was a member of Class No. 7 of Hewitt Presbyterian Church and a member of the John Wesley Sunday School of Washington Street Methodist Church. On Nov. 6, 1954, she married Elwood Buckingham, who survives. Surviving in addition to her husband, are three sons, William L. Buckingham and E. Lee Buckingham, both of Vienna, W. Va., and Kevin E. Buckingham of Phoenix, Arizona; one daughter, Mrs. John "Martha" Nedley of Clarksville; five grandchildren, Ryan McCollum, David Buckingham, Mark Buckingham, Jeff Nedley and Jill Nedley; and one step-granddaughter, Autumn Beckwith. More: Friends of Nancy Buckingham of Bayard Ave., Rices Landing, who died Thursday, Feb. 1, 1996, will be received from 7-9 PM Friday and 2 to 4 and 9 PM Saturday in Behm Funeral Home Inc., Route 188, Jefferson. Services will be held at 2 PM Sunday, Feb. 4, in Hewitt Presbyterian Church, Rices Landing, with the Rev. William Bradford Davis and the Rev. Ralph Brownfield officiating.
