They were very dry and hard to handle, but I could salvage a few pieces, which I have saved through the years. One with dateline: FRANKLIN, PA: DRUMMER BOY OF (missing) CRITICALLY ILL: The story goes on to tell of R. Butler, a 12 year old boy from Princeton, Indiana who was refused when he wanted to enlist at the beginning of the Civil War. Finally he was permitted to be the drummer of the 17th Indiana Infantry. That is the only information which was printed other than the health condition the the 77 year old man, and he was an oil operator. I found a J.R. Butler in the 1870 census, living in Richhill, #0393B but of course have no certainty as to if they are the same person. If so, he would be about 21, as he would have been born in 1849? Is there someone who can help me on this one, or is searching this family, or where I could look? When did he die and where is he buried? I looked at the cemetery listing and though I could have missed him, I did try to look at everything. Thank you. I appreciate any help I may receive.
