Hi all, I'm still trying to find the parents of my Nancy (Slater) Donahoo, b. 1798 in PA, d. August 13, 1875 in Greene Co. (where she spent most of her life). She married William Donahoo and had seven children. I had worked for years under the assumption that she was a granddaughter of Thomas and Eleanor (Eden?) Slater, early settlers in Waynesburg, but one by one I've ruled out all of their sons as being Nancy's father except for two -- John and James -- about whom nothing is known and who seem to have left SW PA before 1800. So it's looking increasingly unlikely that Nancy was descended from Thomas. This has left me wondering where she could have come from. I know from the census that she was born in PA, so I started looking in adjacent counties. I found in Fayette Co. a Slater (Slator, Schletor, Schledorn) family, of German descent, who apparently lived near enough to the border with Greene Co. to at least make it feasible that she could have come from them. Does anyone on the list know anything about these German Slater families, or about any other Slater families in SW PA? I've been searching for Nancy for 30 years, and feel no closer to finding out who her parents were now than I was when I started. Anything, even hints, would be appreciated. cheers, Gordon Bonnet Trumansburg NY
