Lists, I've been working on a project for several months and am pleased to announce it before Memorial Day. I have a few finishing touches left, but the bulk is done. Patricia Wilson submitted over 300 WWII photos for *some* WWII veterans of the Mon Valley area [Roscoe, Stockdale, Allenport, Fayette City, Charleroi, and many other areas are included.] And some for WWII veterans who had worked at the Corning Glass Plant in Charleroi, PA. These include men who were POWs, or KIA with memorial cards. The newspaper clippings were saved by the Roscoe American Legion, and taken from "The Roscoe Ledger," published in Roscoe, PA. [*Note: This does not include *all* men of Mon Valley.] Almost all have newspaper photographs or portrait photos. Volunteers from the Washington Co Rootsweb List helped me with this project. Typing help was given by Carole Clarke. To supplement these clippings, SSDI research was provided by : Kathleen Gregory, Rebecca Pauley, and Stephen Fox. Thank you to each of the volunteers, and to Patricia and the Roscoe American Legion for making this project possible! Also, folks on the Washington County list were patient with my questions about WWII and contributed info for the project. Although I knew the majority of men probably died already, it was kind of sad to actually get the volunteer look-ups from the SSDI. I got to know a little about a hardy selection of men, and learned more about the Allenport Steel Mill and that area of Washington County. If you know anything about the ones not listed in the SSDI, let me know. A few men were from outside of Washington County, and a few were from out of State with relatives in Mon Valley. The Mon Valley Veterans and Corning Glass Veterans are linked from the home page at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~pawashin/ Or, to get to the index for the Mon Valley Vets: http://www.rootsweb.com/~pawashin/military/wwII/index.html Or, the index for the Corning Glass Veterans: http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~florian/mills_plants/corning-glass-charleroi-pa/index.htm There is an alphabetical index of links. Also, the new Google search box seems to be picking up more of these pages - more than Pico or Freefind searches. The veterans project is not limited to Mon Valley. If you want to submit articles or photos of veterans from your family, submit them to [email protected] and include dates of birth and death, location, your name, how the veteran is related to you, and if you want your email used. [And any other info you want included.] If the service person is still living, please get their permission for me to use their photo, article, and personal information. Happy hunting!
