    3. My Peter Dillon b. c1754 (likely Ireland) is first officially described in Somerset Co., NJ c1775. He was active with the NJ Militia in the Revolutionary War and resettled to Washington/Greene Co. prior to the 1790 Federal Census. But it is his life prior to 1775 that I'm interested in researching. He likely came from N. Ireland as did most of the Irish prior to and up through the Revolutionary period. Henry S. 3. Yes, the eastern PA. and Maryland state connection can seem puzzling; but such did indeed happen. I am guessing that it went something like this. Germans at least were in Lancaster Co., PA., then some of them dropped down into Maryland state. Later when they wanted to go on westward, it was easier for them to go back north into PA. then on westward. There were mountains in the way. They continued west but often in the southern part of PA., thus they would end up in Fayette & Greene Counties. If they dropped south again, they would end up in what became West Virginia during the American Civil War, early 1860's. Right there on the state border to the west was the state of Ohio. Some even traveled by the Ohio River and ended up in areas (states) that might surprised you. Kay C. ----- Original Message ----- From: Vicki Tuttle To: Henry S Dillon ; Sent: Saturday, February 21, 2009 4:55 AM Subject: Re: [PAGRE] TUSTIN Hi Henry, Thank you so much for your reply. No, I don't know Elizabeth's maiden name. I do believe you are right that she is the Elizabeth buried in the Hamilton Cemetery in Monroe Co. I have been poking around Eastern PA and Maryland trying to find anything on her and Hugh (and the Tustins), but to no avail. Abraham and Mary both state in the 1860 census that they were born in Maryland. I don't see how that could be, but have been searching to prove or disprove the information. They were both in Mifflin Co PA in 1790 and in Greene Co in 1800, so the families must have migrated together. In later censuses the kids state that Abraham was born in Maryland and Mary either in Maryland or Ohio. I can understand why they would think she was born in Ohio since her parents settled there. Do you know if any other of Hugh's children (and possible children) say that they were born in Maryland? And do you think Hugh and Elizabeth would have had a Mary and a Mary Ann? I would feel better about this connection if Abraham and Mary would have had a son named Hugh, but it doesn't appear that they ever did. However I am fairly certain that Mary is a sister of William Hamilton of Greene Co and supposedly he did have a Hugh. And I am convinced that Mary Hamilton and the Rachel Hamilton that married John Dillon are sisters. There is a lot of confusion in the Tustin genealogy concerning the Dillon connection and I believe it all stems from this relationship. Also Abraham and Mary's son, William, did have a Hugh H. Tustin. I have yet to discover what the H. stands for, but I'd like to believe that it is Hamilton. On another note, I know that Abraham Tustin bought two tracts of land in Monroe Co OH on Mar 20, 1837 the same day and time as Hugh Hamilton. Hugh's document # was 2669 and Abraham's were # 2670 & # 2671. Hugh's land was in section 12, twp 6N, range 7W and Abraham's was in section 7, twp 7N, range 7W. I have no idea what any of those numbers mean, but I'm assuming they bought land fairly close to each other. I don't believe that Abraham ever went to Ohio and the land is not mentioned in his will which was written in 1859, so would be curious to know when and who he sold it to. Do you know anything about that land? At this point I have more questions than answers, but would like to know your thoughts. Thanks again! I can't thank you sufficiently for that. My apologies for my delay in responding. I have been away from my data for a few days. First of all, have you any idea of the maiden name for Elizabeth married to Hugh Hamilton? I also show some of this family. In 2000 I cleared the Hamilton Cemetery in Summit Twp., Monroe Co., OH and reread all the stones. There are 4-6 Hamiltons buried there including Elizabeth Hamilton d.14 Oct 1840, age 76. I'm still thinking this is the same Elizabeth, wife of Hugh. We also thought the same in 2000. We also had a Mary Ann Hamilton, daughter of Hugh and Elizabeth. I am thinking Mary Ann Hamilton eventually may have married James Morris. The Morris, Hamilton, Dillon families are all closely connected in this Hamilton Cemetery. Three Morris family members married three Dillons. We know that John Dillon married Rachel Hamilton who I believe is a sister to Mary Ann Hamilton and daughter of Hugh and Elizabeth. There is also a John Hamilton in this cemetery slightly younger than Rachel, who may have been a brother. Also, John Dillon's son, Vincent Dillon, married Hannah Jackson, who according to Bates or Evans, was the daughter of Henry Jackson and Hannah Keener. Further Vincent Dillon and Hugh Hamilton acquired land adjacent to each other and within months of each other c1840 in Summit Twp., Monroe Co., OH. I'd have to research the exact date. So they were obviously acquainted. So you helped me a great deal support some of this information previously acquired. We also know that Rachel Hamilton died abt 1840 as her husband's deeds before that date include her name and after that date only include his own. We did not find a marker for her in the Hamilton Cemetery. All very interesting. Thank you so very much for your help. Henry S. My information shows that Leah died in 1865. David apparently married again. In 1880, he was living in Center Twp with wife Margaret, age 55. However, another genealogist has indicated that he married Mary Bradford Bayard Kent (he was her third husband). Do you know who his second wife was? My second question is - what was the denomination of White's Church? I have run across some tidbits of information suggesting that Israel White's grandfather, Uriah White, and his family were Quakers and had some problems with their church before the sons migrated from Chester County to Greene County. It appears that they were members of the Merion Meeting and then in 1754 moved to the Goshen Meeting. In 1755, the Goshen meeting notes that "Uriah White complained of for non-payment of debt to George Garrett. John Holland and Joseph Matlack to deal with him." In 1770, son Thomas was in trouble for being married by a priest outside the faith. In Nov 1770, Thomas was "disowned" for his marriage and absconding from creditors. In Aug 1771, the meeting records show that "Uriah White and wife some time ago left these parts in a disreputable manner. Thomas White their son has removed to same part without requesting a certificate." These are suggestive tidbits but are far from complete.... 3. Hi Henry, Thank you so much for your reply. Henry S. 1. [PAGRE] Regarding genealogy web & the marriage notices
    2. J.A. Florian
    3. Hi, I thought I sent this but I guess I didn't. ? "Barbara" from one of the Lists asked me a question. I thought I'd post my answer to all the Lists in case other people have questions too. A while back, Sandy Miklavic asked if I could put her marriage collection online. These are newspaper notices of engagements, marriages, or divorces from late 1800s through the mid 1900s (mostly 1880s to 1940s). They are from McDonald PA newspapers. McDonald is in the northern part of Washington Co. Articles mention any northern towns, along with places in Allegheny Co, Washington Co., and out of State. Some also mention Greene Co PA, Fayette Co., or Beaver Co PA. The bulk of these marriages have not been put onto mailing lists since getting info onto the websites has been my focus. I've mainly been posting these to Lists recently to give credit to the many typists who have been helping me the past couple months so I can get more online and faster. (And again, thank you to all the volunteer typists.) My "genealogy" website has had the "framework" for these articles set up for a while now. When I say framework, I mean each page has empty spots with the bride and grooms' names and either the newspaper date or marriage date (some articles don't give the exact marriage date). The framework has an empty spot for the image, and a spot for the typed article. Many of these are empty still---but I'm working hard at filling the spots. As I have gotten or just now get the images, I put them online in the framework I've described. Putting them online is NOT done in any particular alphetical order because the images come in multiple batches of various names. Recently, more have been sent to me in alphabetical order than before. Listing and display on the website is alphabetical, by GROOM. There is an A-B, C-D and so on index list broken into 13 index ("main") pages. (Maybe when I'm done I can re-index and list it also by bride but that won't be done anytime in the near future! ) If you go to the website and do an on-site search by GROOM or by the word marriage or marriage notice, you should find Sandy's collection, as well as other marriages on the other websites. The other marriages are from areas of Washington Co other than McDonald area. If the spots are empty on Sandy's collection, you'll know I haven't gotten it yet or haven't gotten it online yet. ** Please keep checking back to the website. I can't do look-ups on these. I also cannot promise to always post to the lists because (1) I have a lot to do to get items onto the Internet (2) I'm back-logged (3) I may forget or be too busy to do it. Just visit and search. It usually takes a week for search engines to re-index and find new items. The Keyhole Quartely Magazine in 2008 had been publishing Sandy's Master List of Names. These match what's on the web -- maybe with some names missing from the Master List (we add missing ones as we notice them). I think Sandy said there's probably over 2,000 marriages in her collection, and the articles are in all shapes and sizes. ;-) All my websites can be accessed through the "misc" freepages link below. Judy Note: I have many, many notices still waiting to be typed, if anyone else wants to join the fun? It's pretty simple: I forward a batch; the typist types it "as is", adds CAPS to last names, puts it in a text (txt) file and sends it back to me. -- -- WASHINGTON COUNTY PA WEBSITES::: http://freepages.misc.rootsweb.com/~florian/ Coordinator of the Washington County PAGenWeb: http://www.rootsweb.com/~pawashin/

On my grandfather's birth certificate it says his father was a Frank Strosnider and her name at the time was Bessie Kiener, so that means that her maiden name wasn't Strosnider. I don't think the two ever married and on a web site that I googled on Mount Morris PA, I found old school pictures that showed a Bessie Patterson, that would have fit my great-grandmother's age with her birth being in 1888. So, bless her heart, I have found that she may have been a Patterson, then Kiener, possibly a Strosnider and then Wolford (which is my maiden name, which now maybe should have been Strosnider!!!AH!), then before her death Lamb. I am still working on her to find her true maiden name!! Thanks again for all of your help and anyone else who has helped!!!
