Rush, an aged and highly respected citizen, died at his home in Morris township, Tuesday, June 25, aged 78 years, after an illness of several weeks. Mr. Rush was a son of Silas and Sarah Rush, deceased. He had followed the carpenter trade and also engaged in farming. He was a member of the Beulah Baptist church. Beside his wife he is survived by four children, Demas, of Morris township; Alvie, in the U.S. service and located at a training camp in Texas; Fred and Goldie, at home. The funeral was held on Friday. Interment in the Beulah cemetery. Waynesburg Republican, 24 Mar 1927 Mrs. Louisa E. Rush, widow of Andrew J. Rush, deceased, of Morris township, died in the Washington hospital Wednesday morning, March 9, at 8:30 o'clock, after a week's illness. She was aged 64 years. Her husband's death occurred in 1918. She was a life long member of the Beulah Baptist church and was highly esteemed. Three sons and a daughter survive, Artemus D. Rush and Mrs. Valdia M. Johnson, of Nineveh; Alva M. Rush, of Prosperity; Floyd I. Rush, of Deer Lick R.D. 2. The funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock, in the Enon Baptist church, conducted by the Rev. J. Walter Banres. Interment in the Enon cemetery. A discrepancy in A.J.'s obit jumped out at me. It says "The funeral was held on Friday" - but if he died on Tuesday the 25th, as the obit says, the Friday funeral would have been on the 28th - the day after the obit was published. I have no other information about A.J.'s death or burial dates. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I searched for an Andrew Jackson Rush b. 1840 and found one in Morris twp. in 1910 with a wife named "Lucie" aged 47. Andrew Jackson Rush was a farmer; they had two sons and a daughter with them. The enumerator's penmanship is pretty bad so I'm not going to try to decipher their names. Hopefully you can find them. In the 1850 Census of Morris twp., there was an A. Jackson Rush age 11 in the household of Silas 58 and Susanna Rush 43. In a 1916 Ag Directory, A.J. Rush appears in Morris Twp. with a wife listed as "Sue" and two children under 21 at home; his primary crop was corn; he owned 137 acres; and they lived on what today is SR 4014. I'm not related. I really think the IE discussion belongs private but as a retired IT manager with almost 30 years in the computer business I just need to comment. I am sure I have used all the IE versions, currently IE8 and Firefox (dual monitor system), on XP Pro and simply don't have any problems accessing any sites or other problems. It's a user issue, controlling addons, and making sure you have all updates, preventing virus, spyware, adware etc. Lets move on -----Original Message----- From: pagreene-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:pagreene-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Mike Grimm Sent: Friday, June 05, 2009 8:33 PM To: Greene Co PA Subject: [PAGRE] IE 7 (forgot subject line) Apologies for the double post, but I forgot the subject line the first time. For a long time if you had downloaded the version 7 you could not acces a lot of sites and now they have version 8 out and I am hearing the same complaint from others. Ancestry is just now converting things, I guess for use of version 7 of the browser. If you let windows do an auto update on your windows files, you may have vesion 8 of Internet Explorer but I choose to be notified of these updates and choose the ones I may or may not want and when I want to do the updates. If you are on XP yu may be running version 6 as we had put version 7 in nmy ex husbands a while back and had major problems iwth outlook express email program, college sites and our bank site and had to remove it. XP probably was not the issue with no access to Internet with IE7. Instead, the no access probably had more to do with your firewall or anti-virus firewall or the program. With XP and XPPro all it should need is acceptance through the firewall. Also you can go to the Greene Co. Courthouse and check for a guardianship record for them which might explain. If there is no such record there, since they were born in OH, there could be a guardianship record for them in the County Courthouse of birth. Dear Group(s): I and posting this on both Washington and Greene because they were Washington until the late 1700's and Thomas and other Hughes lived in what is now Greene County. I hear quite often about "The Hughes Papers" and how Thomas Hughes manumitted his slaves before the Civil War. That the elder Thomas died in 1823 is a long time before the Civil War. And, in Sept 1823, a good 6 months after the elder Thomas Hughes dies, another Thomas Hughes purchased and within the same document freed a slave. However, that freedom was not to come until 1841 and there is no record of that slave being freed in 1841. The elder Thomas Hughes, by recorded document tha I have read, co-freed one slave. He and his brother James co-freed the slave of their late father, Felix Hughes. By document, this is the only slave the elder Thomas Hughes freed/manumitted. It is said, with no documentation, that the elder Thomas freed Daniel Ferrell after Daniel dug 5000 bushels of coal for his master. Again, no documentation that this happened. In fact, I cannot find proof that Daniel Ferrell was ever a slave of the elder Thomas Hughes. Daniel, according the his cemetery records, was born in 1798. A Negro/Mulatto child named "Dan" does appear in a special 1807 Tax List for Jefferson Township. This 1807 Tax List does not seem to be in the Greene County Courthouse records. It was found in the city of Pittsburgh, PA. Jane the Black woman and Daniel Ferrell, a man of color, do appear in the 1823 Last Will and Testament of the elder Thomas Hughes. Jane is to be maintained and Daniel is to be managed. Freed nor manumitted not mentioned. If there are other Manumissions and Freedom Papers from Thomas Hughes to his slaves in Greene County Records, I have not seen them. I guess I need a defination of "The Hughes Papers". Can anyone assist? Bill Davison
