There were actually two Johannes Peter's on this ship. The Johannes Peter (John) in the line being discussed was nine years old and traveling with his parents (Philip Heinrich Arndorff, yes - with an A - long story, 12/6/1716 - 5/31/1777 and wife Anna Elizabuth Luhl 2/10/1714 - abt 1767). The other Johannes Peter (5/9/1734 - 9/2/1786)was nineteen years old and traveling with his older brother Johann Conrad 9/16/1722 - unk. These two were the sons of Johann Wilhelm Ohrendorff 9/1692 - aft 2/1740 and Anna Ottilla Durth abt 1687 - aft 1740. Much of the confusion on these two with the same name, on the same ship results from the ship lists not showing any female names or the names of male children under sixteen years old. I also show six children from the union of John and his first wife, Eva Barbara Unknown (may be Mentz) and twelve with Hanna McIlwee. (Eva Barbara didn't die, John ran off with Hanna. Some of their 'squabbling' went public in the Pennsylvania Gazette (Philadelphia) in April 1777.) To narrow John's birth place a bit. It was in Burbach Nassau-Siegen. This is now in the German state of Nordrhein-Westfalen (English = North Rhine-Westphalia. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. That solves two mysteries--John Gordon's will says he leaves land to the son of his present wife, and didn't name her. Do you have all the children of Jesse Orndorff and Catherine Strosnider that you could share with me? I only have William and a son Jesse who must have died around the time that his father did. All information you can share on this will be helpful, since I don't have much on Jesse or any ancestors. There's not much on them (other than William and Polly Gordon) in the 10 Mile Country or in Bates. Karen Hoy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My paternal grandmother was an Orndoff, directly descended from Jesse and William through William's son Phineas and his son George. William's generation seems to be the first in which the family dropped the r. I remember reading a narative that Jesse Orndorff was a veteran of the War of 1812 and died shortly after returning. His widow Catherine later married the father-in-law of her son William. William's wife was Mary Gordon, whose widowed father was John Gordon, the second sheriff of Greene County. Hope this helps. William was born in Greene County Oct 1803, died 1887 on the family farm on Smith Creek. I see many trees which have Jesse Orndorff and Catherine Strosneider as the parents, but I have not found any primary information to support that. Can someone assist?
