I am trying to establish the parentage of Hannah Shriver, likely born in Greene Co., who eventually married Vincent Dillon. The Shrivers were likely neighbors of the Dillons as determined by the local censuses of this period. I would appreciate any info. Thanks. Henry S. Dillon hsdlsd@earthlink.net

I hope more will follow soon. The new addition is the Esther Ruth Hart Collection, which is housed at the Cornerstone Genealogical Society in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. Many, many thanks to the patient volunteer staff who allowed me organize and scan the collection. This collection is exciting because of the variety of identified photographs from several branches of the extended family, as well as identified photographs of friends and neighbors, some of which go back to the 1850s! Like most collections, this one also includes unidentified photos, but fortunately the context of the collection and other clues may lead to their identifications. All known clues are listed. Please take a look because you might be the one to solve a photo mystery! To view the collection you can go directly to http://www.greeneconnections.com/BuchananPhotoAlbum/GreeneCoRes/FA_CGSP.html and scroll down to the Esther Ruth Hart Series (Catalogue Code: AN006). If the link fails, you can view the collection by: 1) Going to www.GreeneConnections.com 2) Selecting Photo Archives 3) Selecting CGSP - Cornerstone Genealogical Society 4) Scrolling down to the Esther Ruth Hart Series (Catalogue Code: AN006) Here is a summary of the collection from the Finding Aid, more details can be found with each photo: The Esther Ruth Hart Series (Catalogue Code: AN006) photographs were most likely passed from Miles Leonidas Hart [1868-1950] and his wife, Lulu Hewitt [1878-1962], to their daughter, Esther Ruth Hart [1913-2008], whose friends donated the photographs to the Cornerstone Genealogical Society (144 E. Greene St., PO Box 547; Waynesburg, Pennsylvania 15370) in 2008. Shared with the Greene Connections: Greene County, Pennsylvania Photo Archives Project in 2008. The photographs in this series have been divided into four subseries arranged by family: Hart, Hewitt, Martin and Miscellaneous. The latter contains identified photographs of friends and neighbors. A fifth subseries of mostly unidentified photographs have been arranged in a generally chronological order. Subseries: Hart (Catalogue Code: 0001) features descendants of Neri Hart [1821-1899] and his wife, Margaret Ann Rea [1832-1891]. Subseries: Hewitt (Catalogue Code: 0002) features descendants of Adam Hewitt [1783-1872] and his wife, Susanna Prong [1784-1856]. The oldest photograph in this series is of Jacob Fitz Randolph [1779-1857] and his wife, Ruth (Baily) Fitz Randolph [1791-1876], in-laws of Peter Hewitt [1811-1886]. Subseries: Martin (Catalogue Code: 0003) features descendants of Amos Martin Jr. [1821-1864] and his wife, Rachel Ross. Subseries: Miscellaneous (Catalogue Code: 0004) features friends and neighbors. Subseries: Unassigned (No Additional Code, first image is Item # CGSP_AN006_0001) is composed of mostly unidentified photographs. All known information is listed for each image with the hope of providing clues that will lead to identification. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My take on this is that luggage is referring to a color (i.e. tan) rather than a suitcase. Eileen J.A. Florian wrote: >O--kay... I'm stumped. Train cases were hot items back then, and it is likely that you could have purchased a train case which matched your purse. I can imagine that "luggage accessories" meant purse, train case, and suitcase. Best regards, Jane
O--kay... I'm stumped. I need a 1940s fashion guru. WHAT in ladies fashion is "a [specify color] suit with luggage accessories" [a blue suit.... a brown suit... etc.] -- what are luggage accessories? Does it just mean her whatever-color suit had accessories that matched her traveling luggage? What kind of "accessories" would they be? A wide leather strap for a waist belt? lol A metallic bow?? lol A "hinged veil"? lolol A "shiny" halo to match the new shiny luggage? lol Or, dried wrinkled make-up to match an old dried-leather suitcase? haha! One or two big "handles" attached to her sides? LOLOL I searched the 'Net but all I found were similar 1940s wedding announcements using the same phrase, that the bride wore a colored suit with luggage accessories. Anyone know of an Internet picture? Judy

FYI, I have sent a copy of the original spam email to <mailto:abuse@rootsweb.com>abuse@rootsweb.com and have notified them that Richard Huntsinger has confirmed that this was spam. They only need one copy, so you do not need to take any action vis a vis RootsWeb. Noticed that the "From " address contained "invitation@mydailyflog.com" and only the "Reply to" address contained Richard's correct email address. This sort of thing happened on the RootsWeb Rhodes list, but it was a different originator (spammer) and it kept sending out "reminders" so I'm going to place Richard's email address on "moderation" for now, meaning that any mail sent with his email address will require my review before it is sent on to the list. I hope that works and is not an inconvenience to Richard. Regards, Jane List Admin.
Just received a request from RootsWeb to review an email from Richard Huntsinger because he sent it to too many addresses. That's a RootsWeb "no-no" but Richard had good reason. This is what he writes: Do not open an E-Mail to see a picture on (MYFLOG) from Richard Huntsinger. It is probably in your junk mail My apologies to all, it is a scam Richard Huntsinger

Dear List, There was an article in an old paper mentioning the Foley Farm in the Bristoria area. It was the site of an archeology dig. Does anyone on the list know the location of the farm? Carole Clarke

If I have a chance to get to the PA Historical Society I'll try to check out the PA Gazette--sounds like the 18th century version of People Magazine. Hugh, do you know what Phillip's occupation was? Were the other Arndorffs on the ship related to Phillip in some way (nephews, perhaps?). I haven't been successful in finding early Orndorff history in Greene County, and it is because you are suggesting they were in VA and eastern PA. Certainly helps to know where to look for people! There seem to be a number of Orndorff families in central PA and Frederick, MD. Do you know if they were related, and was that a stop over point for the family to head west? William Orndorff is my husband's 3rd great grandfather, my husband is descended thorugh William's daughter Cassandra Orndoff Gooden (m. to David Gooden, who also spelled the name differently over time). We were in Greene County over Memorial Day, and a relative took us past the Orndorff farm on Smith Creek--a beautiful place that has the family name on the barn. Hugh, what part of the world do you live in? We're now in eastern PA. I have heard that there are some Orndoff family histories available. Can you recommend any?
